Very disappointing...
Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
"Fast Color" is a story about mother and daughter relationships, the only thing is each of them have supernatural skills to manipulate weather and matter. At the one point in the film, one of characters, "Ruth" played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw says, "We are not superheroes ... we are just trying to get by." At a recent film festival Q/A session, Jordan Horowitz (co-wrote the screenplay) and Mbatha-Raw explained that the story is not trying to follow the current Hollywood trend of making violent and action-packed films about super heroes with powers to destroy or help humankind. It looks into the idea of women, in this case... women of color trying to empower each other, after they all suffered from an emotional trauma due to Ruth's powers becoming unstable.Lorraine Toussaint, who play Ruth's mother, "Bo" does a wonderful job of helming the powered-up matriarch by trying to suture the broken relationship between her granddaughter and Ruth.
