September Tapes is best described as Blair Witch in Afghanistan. Instead of hunting a witch in the woods, a small documentary film crew brave the dangers of Afghanistan in search of Osama Bin Laden. Much like The Blair Witch Project, the idea behind this film is that eight tapes were found in a cavern in the Afghanistan mountains and they were put together to create this fictional documentary

Great Film overall
A Major Disappointment
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
i went into this hoping it would be the "thought provoking" little gem people have reviewed this as. i love indy films and expected to dig this too. knowing what a hot button this topics is i expected to be really entertained, maybe even see an outsiders perspective.all i can say is wow....if your into self torture, or mutilation then maybe you'll like this. personally i don't like the idea of being pee'd on or cutting myself so i thought it was garbage. bad script, bad acting, bad story, bad directing, bad editing....i could go on. i have no clue why a reviewer claimed he or she was making a political point by giving this movie a 10. that's misleading and ignorant. voting for a movie on IMDb isn't setting a precedent! it just lets other people think that a garbage bomb like this is OK to watch as long as it's controversial (this film is not, it tries VERY HARD to be but fails). you know the movie is bad when 15 minutes into it your praying that all main characters die horrifically. unfortunately they do die, but not in the painful manners that would have given the viewer some justice or vindication for having watched the 2 hours of crap they just endured. do yourself a favor, just don't even bother. i got this movie in a bargain bin at my local video store for .50 and feel ripped off!
Very real film. Intense and emotional. I was hooked from the start. The plot line was interesting and daring. I enjoyed the controversial subject matter and rooted for the hero to get his revenge. The location and setting of the film made me film like I was with the hero in his hunt for Bin Laden. The excellent film making by Christian Johnston puts the viewer right in the middle of the action. The camera work in the film were beautiful, capturing the setting of the Northern Alliance world in a most captivating way. The action sequences were so riveting but not too violent. The movie displayed a desperate man on a suicide mission in very compasionate way.
I was in my carmex {Military Room} watching this movie deployed as a tour of duty, I wasn't told that this movie was A MOVIE i assumed that it was real. It Fulled Me i was sitting there going through every scene watching the movie thinking to myself this is amazing. Then finally at the end i saw the commentary and was like they really pulled a fast one on me. This is one of the best scripts i ever seen put together this movie is a 10 to me thanks. The director of the film knew what he was doing they captured some very good and believable footage. The authinticity of this film is by far, one of the best. The story line is amazing, and not hard to follow but since its a movie they could have had the subtitles replaced with an all English part so i could keep my eyes on the footage instead of the caption that is my only complaint but this is a great movie. i would like to see another movie simialar in the near future.
If you want thought provoking, this is not the place to go. The main character is annoying at best, and the depiction of Afghanistan seems false and lacking knowledge. Most of the actors are not convincing, and I was bored within 15 minutes, why? Because I didn't really care if the guy survived the next five minutes or not. When I picked it up I was expecting something more revealing, a point of view we have not seen yet. Something original at least, or at the very, very least, actors who knew what they were doing. If you want to learn more about things, gain insight, or new perspective, this isn't the place to go. Poorly made, hard to watch, and chalked full of stereotypical b.s. and a lot of cheesy lines from our main guy.
