Edward Said: The Last Interview
Edward Said: The Last Interview
Prominent Columbia University English and Comparative Literature professor Edward Said was well known in the United States for his tireless efforts to convey the plight of the Palestinian people, and in this film shot less than a year before his death resulting from incurable leukemia, the author of such books as {-Orientalism}, {-Culture and Imperialism}, and {-Power, Politics, and Culture} discusses with filmmakers his illness, his life, his education, and the continuing turmoil in Palestine. Diagnosed with the disease in 1991, Said struggled with his leukemia throughout the 1990s before refraining from interviews due to his increasingly fragile physical state. This interview was the one sole exception to his staunch "no interview" policy, and provides fascinating insight into the mind of the man who became Western society's most prominent spokesman for the Palestinian cause.

One word is sufficient to describe Leader (2010) : Awesome ! Its intelligent movie making at its best. Decent acting from the entire cast, clever direction and editing. Music is a high point - the 'Maa Telugu Thalliki' song is one of the best this year. The last time i saw a telugu movie with this kind of screenplay was in the 90s.Leader is like a whiff of fresh breeze to the telugu movie industry. If any of you out there are irritated at the kind of Indian movies that are made today, you will be pleasantly surprised with Leader. Its a director's show all the way. Shekhar Kammula's vision is extraordinary. The way he has built up the tension throughout the movie and his use of crispy dialogue to drive the idea home is commendable.Given Andhra pradesh's political scenario today, Leader could not have come at a better time. The only downside to the movie is love affair that develops in the second half, kind of immature, but the rest of the movie and the expectation of the climax is enough to sustain the audience's attention throughout.Underplay is completely absent in our movies, Rana Daggubati has made history with his portrayal. For an actor his age and given that this is his first full-length feature film, its amazing the way he has shown restraint and poise. The guy who plays an assistant to Rana in the film has done a wonderful job. Most importantly, this movie gives hope to all the people of Andhra and India as well, that we can do away with money power and caste politics if we believed in ourselves, and if we have a Leader who can lead by example.Hope the industry produces more good movies such as this. 8.5/10 !

I don't get too excited to watch a film when I see a promo of a film. This film is an exception. As soon as I watched the trailer, I was DYING to watch this film! First of all, because it is a Sekhar Kammula film. And second, to see Rana, who makes his debut with this film. My high expectations were reached.Basically, the plot is about a Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh who dies in a car blast and has his son, who studies in America, take over the state and overcome corruption. Telugu cinema does not have enough political dramas and the ones that do have lots of violence and swear words. LEADER is the only film, sans violence, swearing, and even dancing to a song (an Indian-film tradition). Rana was really good as the young Chief Minister. This movie did not look like Rana's first film. I hope he does more films like this (not necessary political, but just a variety of roles) in the future. Sekhar Kammula is great as usual. Very good dialogue in the film. The biggest plus of the film is the music. Mickey meyer used 'Maa Telugu Thalli' and 'Vandemataram' in the film soundtrack. There is an item song in this movie, more of qawalli type. The movie was kinda long, abt 3 hours, but damn, it was worth it! I recommend every Indian to watch this film. It might change the way you think..

script: leader is a brave attempt by director . he drives the movie really good and gives the movie a splendid finish. the movie is all about hero the son of chief minister of Andra pradesh who is an entrepreneur in USA. after the blast of his father , he decides to become c.m but cousin opposes him. after becoming c.m he faces many difficulties. how he overcomes and emerges as a leader is in the script.casting: Rana is a pick for the movie. his dialog delivery and his height factor along with a stupendous look is the plus point. his lady love richa is OK. priya anand is supportive. suhasini manirathram is a good mother. kota is a stubborn and corruptive uncle. rest all apt.screenplay: the movie in the first half , is well made and is fast.the movie drags a bit in 2nd half. camera work is good.action/drama: the movie is more dramatic rather than action oriented. there is no any action scene except a slap scene and some bullets along with a blast and fire scene. songs/art : art work is apt. songs like vande mataram and leader title song is good. background score is well hitched. DTS mix at right intervals are apt. DTS mix is powerful during rain thunder storm.final analysis: the first half is good to watch. the second half is a drag bit. though the climax is convincing. leader is a must watchable movie.

A complete shift from his earlier films, Sekhar Kammula has yet again struck the right lines while directing this film. I had lot of doubt before the movie got released, as to whether Sekhar really had the story and the guts to pull off such a film, but he did with an incredible style. The story though seems inspired from real life incidents is very well written and the dialogues are brilliant. The film slackens a bit in the second half, but the ending is a high adrenaline jump as the old man's scene moves you completely. The background music is inspiring and brings you goose-bumps every time the Leader's title track instrumental comes along.Rana should be appreciated a lot for staying away from the commercial launch for his first film and even his subtle expressions and underplay deserves a sound applause. Finally a must watch.
