Trailer Synopsis Cast

Salival is a limited edition box set in CD/VHS and CD/DVD formats released in 2000 by Tool. It includes a 56-page book of photos and stills from their music videos. As the box set has now been out of print for some time, it can only be found secondhand, usually at a price disproportionate to its original recommended retail price. As VHS has now become all but obsolete, the DVD version tends to retail for a higher price as it is in higher demand.

It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.

A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."

No self respecting TOOL fan would be without this in his/her collection... Even though he/she already has all the videos bootlegged anyway.^^^ BTW. It's "Opiate" not "Opium" (no self respecting TOOl fan would make that mistake either) And speaking of Opiate... There's a hidden feature on the DVD. At the main menu there are the small hands in the corner of the screen. Pay attention to those icons for a hint on which one to press to watch TOOLS first video ever. "HUSH" (the first words in HUSH lyrics are "fu@k You!") DVD only... you VHS owners are just SOL.

With the possible exception of their first, "Hush", all of Tool's subsequent videos have raised the bar for artistic direction and creative visualization in the dwindling genre of music videos. This purchase is highly recommended for Tool fans, regardless of whether or not they've seen these videos before. Besides an aggravating DVD interface (which is to be expected from the likes of the band), the only down point of this video/CD set is that it no longer includes all of the band's videos, but they can be downloaded via the internet.Surprisingly beautiful images arise from this collection of otherwise macabre videos. Recommended.

This video was a great reminder about why fans of Tool love them. I am one of them, and I have been one for some time (opium years), and never before have I felt a great appreciation for their art as a whole than when they released this collection of works. Sure the VHS owners (like myself) don't get to see the B&W film for an early song, but it still works my mind into a frenzy on how they came up with some of those images. Stinkfist and Prison Sex are two of my favorite, which I'm glad to have on there, and who care's if they keep releasing new videos that can't be on there? I love Schism and all, but this is about the evolution of the whole thing...you get the total experience of what their minds are like collectively, which is a great refreshment from modern-day metal and rock personalities all over.

This box set from TOOL comes with a music CD and DVD, or VHS tape; but the DVD contains an extra video and is in Dolby 5.1 surround sound. Although the DVD doesn't contain any live material, the CD does.If you like Aenima or Lateralus, Salival is a welcome addition. The live performances have a supersonic sound quality which easily rivals any live recording. I don't know how they got this kind of quality and production value, but the energy of the performances is mesmerizing. The third track, "Pushit", was re-written specifically for the stage, and it's well worth the price of admission. The packaging concept of the set makes it a great collectors' item, as well.It is very cool to get the four major videos on DVD, plus a bonus video from "Opiate". Although there are only 3 or 4 great songs on the CD, they provide a new insight into the band, displaying a style that is unique to any of their albums. If you like their long, epic tracks like `Eulogy' and `Lateralus', you won't want to miss this. At this time, no other band out there is this complex and creative. The only complaints: 1) The DVD is too short, containing only the videos. 2) The CD only has a few songs on it, but at least it clocks-in at close to 70 minutes.I can't wait for the "Schism" DVD to be released in late 2001; it's their best video so far.
