DEVICE VOICE DRUM was recorded live on June 15, 2002 at EarthLink Live in Atlanta, Georgia. Film company Real 2 Reel Studios filmed and recorded the live DVD. Five 16mm film cameras, along with numerous digital video cameras, were used for the shoot. All audio was recorded on a Sony 3348 digital 48-track tape machine, which was transferred to Real 2 Reel™s ProTools HD system for editing and mixing in 5.1 surround sound. In addition to the new live concert, DEVICE VOICE DRUM will feature archival footage of interviews with members of KANSAS - Phil Ehart (drummer), Billy Greer (bass guitar, vocals), Robby Steinhardt (violin, vocals), Steve Walsh (lead vocals, keyboards) and Richard Williams (lead and acoustic guitar) - as well as behind-the-scenes footage that the band has been filming with hand-held cameras over the last several months. Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Perhaps no band in the history of rock has worked as hard, toured as much as Kansas. Device-Voice-Drum is "exibit A" of this! A flawless effort by America's most prolific classic rock band. They are respected by the music industry and fans alike. Their music isn't for everyone, that's for sure. But this band shines in a live venue (I've seen them many times and in all their incarnations over 25 years) and they ALWAYS satisfy in concert. "DVD" is a must see for music lovers! Good job guys!If there is a "complaint," it is that I wish Kansas had done more recordings for video format over the years. I really don't believe that they fully understand how great they are in a live situation. Studio music does not do this band justice (although I love their studio work as well).
This concert proves that Kansas are still the masters of music and time. They all play perfectly with each other, and the results is music that other bands feel is impossible to play. All the classics are played to perfection, except I feel that "Dust in the Wind" was lacking unity from the choir and orchestra.
