Just what I expected
Crappy film
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Wanna see Bigfoot tear apart some biker's genitals? Wanna see Bigfoot rape a 15-year-old girl? Wanna see Bigfoot rip out a guy's intestines and whip people with them? This hidden gem has you covered.Night of the Demon is one of the "best" B-movies i've seen. It's bad, it's gory, has atmosphere and even a sensible plot. The death scenes are quite something to behold, for example in one scene the Bigfoot slams two girl scouts that have knives on their hands together, making them stab each other. The audio is also hilarious due to it's awfulness. At some parts (especially in the death scenes) there's poorly recorded screams and moans added, further increasing the level of cheese. The movie proceeds quickly enough so there's no irritating or boring scenes that you have to sit through. I thought the plot was kinda interesting and well written (in terms of a B-movie that is) and it even had some witchcult/satanic vibes on it. A little.Good movie. Watch it if you get the change. Prepare yourself for cheese. Bye.
Out there in the wilderness is an actual Sasquatch which doesn't take prisoners: it simply kills and seems to delight in the bloodshed that is a result of its appetite for destruction. Director James C Wasson's "Night of the Demon" wallows in gore and violence. I was anticipating the violence, but not at such extreme lengths. Jim Ball's story and Mike Williams' screenplay showcase a large number of encounters between a tall, hulking, furry creature (.. with certain human characteristics which show when we get a good look at it) and human victims who have the misfortune of coming across it in its neck of the woods. Truth be told, beside a professor in anthropology and his students heading out into a wilderness location where the creature was reported to be sighted, the film is a series of cases where the Sasquatch mutilated victims, in gory detail, leaving the bodies to bleed out.The movie's reputation derives from the many dark story details that emerge based on the Sasquatch and its horrifying activities. A fanatical religious wilderness hick beats his fifteen year old daughter for accepting flowers from a boy, believing she was committing sinful deeds, the girl later raped and impregnated by the Sasquatch. The father is later burned alive by the daughter for killing her "cursed offspring", known by those who live in the city away from the wilderness as "Crazy Wanda". The professor, whose face is bandaged, lies in a hospital room communicating to the sheriff and doctors about what happened to his students who are missing. The professor and students come across a nervy and quite strange hermit who lives alone in a cabin and knows that the Sasquatch in out there. He's aloof and holds a lot of what he knows inside. He's the one who sent details about the Sasquatch to the professor. The violence of this movie is what will be remembered. A couple making out in a van are interrupted by the Sasquatch who takes the boyfriend from his girl and she later sees him thrown up against the window, blood flowing. A man on a motorcycle stops to urinate when he's castrated. An old man's arm is ripped from its shoulder, blood pooling inside the Sasquatch's footprint (this is what opens the film's credits!). Girl scouts are cutting away bushes which get in the way as they look for a path out of the forest, when they are lifted up by the Sasquatch, slammed into each other as the knives penetrate their bodies, with rapid blood flow. One man, awakening after a night's sleep, is picked up in his sleeping bag, spun in the air, and impaled on a tree stick. Then you have the grand finale, right out of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, the professor and his students trying to barricade themselves in Wanda's home from the creature, unsuccessful as it breaks in, with the expected carnage. A hacksaw to the stomach opens a wound for which the Sasquatch is able to rip out some guts to twirl around. One victim is thrown through a window, his throat slowly sliced across broken glass. One female victim is stabbed in the back with a pitchfork, another has his face fried to a crisp when the Sasquatch presses it into a hot stove. Not to mention, one lumberman chopping wood receives an ax to the shoulder, his cut wound spurting blood. Lots and lots of blood. This movie loves to show lingering camera close ups of the creature's handiwork. Not a pretty movie at all; ugly and no holds barred. The acting and dialogue, cinematography and story play second fiddle to the creature's bloodletting.
A few years ago my mother had bought me a DVD called Night of the Demon out of the 5 dollar bin, she knew my love of horror films and thought that the cover looked cool and that I would probably like it. Weird thing is, I never checked it out until recently, years and years this DVD sat on my shelf and I don't know why I didn't check it out earlier. Because when I went onto IMDb for reviews and then onto Amazon, I couldn't believe my eyes, this same DVD that my mom bought for 5 dollars is now selling for 80 dollars on Amazon, isn't that crazy? So my mother picked a true treasure I was guessing. Well, after viewing it, I'm not so sure that treasure is the right name any more, but it certainly has something. I'm an gore fan, I have to admit, the story could be lousy but if there is good gore in the film, I just end up falling for it. Night of the Demon does that for me, while the story, acting and directing isn't up to par, this is a fun movie with the killing scenes. I know that sounds sick, but this is a fun treasure from the 80's with the great senseless nudity, sex, drugs, drinking, stereotypes and violence that I could want.Night of the Demon tells the story of an anthropology class's all-too-successful expedition into the American wilderness to find the truth behind the Sasquatch legend. Along the way, the team learn about the creature's previous victims, uncover the squalid story of a hermit who gave birth to a mutation after being raped by the monster, and finally come face to face with the beast himself.Eighty dollars worth of your time; no, not really, but if you're able to still find it cheap and are a horror fan like I am, I totally recommend this film. This is a crazy monster we have in the film, we go from this light hearted music that sounds like it belongs in an elevator to seeing Big Foot rip a guys hot dog off! You know what I mean, I can't write it on this website. Also this poor girl is getting beaten by her hick father after he suspects her feelings for another man, literally thrashing a belt on her back, now in most horror movies, the dad would be the one put to justice, but it's the girl that gets raped by Big Foot and gives birth to his baby! Now that's a Jerry Springer episode that I would love to see! The whole ending is in slow motion with the sickest kills you will ever see, Saw would cover it's eyes to some of these gruesome kills. It's a very strange film, believe me, it's not for everyone. The direction is a little off and the lighting is absolutely horrible at times, however the reason I forgave this so fast is due to the fact that it seems like the cast and crew genuinely had a great time making this film. I mean there's a scene where Big Foot takes two girl scouts who happen to be carrying knives and pulls their arms towards each other stabbing each other while the whole time you're screaming "Just drop the knife! Problem solved!". But it's moments like that that make me enjoy a movie when you're just having a good time with it. This may be a twisted Big Foot, but that's just the way we are supposed to suspect him to be, why are we so afraid of him? Just like Jaws made people afraid of sharks, Night of the Demon will make you afraid of Big Foot! But like I said, don't buy it for 80 dollars, I'm sure you can find it cheaper somewhere else or it's gotta be on the net, because people are greedy and crazy.6/10
this old time classic is the most gory an scary big foot movie of them all, professor Nugent and his motley gang are looking in the deep dark woods for the yeti. only to find the creature is in no mood for interview's! and in graphic flashback we are show numerous bloody deaths best of all the camper who gets a rude awakening by being thrown onto some rather sharp branches! the acting is well quite good! i first saw this many years ago on beta-max when it was uncut, I've recently brought the DVD and its cut to bits! so my advice is to look for the American version on region 1 thats has all the death scenes in tact, it was on the video nasties list for ages and with good reason! very messy in places. watch and enjoy!
