It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.

It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

I have to be honest, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this film! Like something out of the Twilight Zone, the Director takes us through a journey that keeps you on your toes from scene to scene. This is not a horror film or meant to be one... it's more of a Sci-fi thriller that takes you on the ride of your life. Smart, Creepy, suspenseful, but what I loved more than anything is that Writer/Director James Lay does not take the audience to be a bunch of mindless idiots. The only Sci-fi fan that would not enjoy this, would be one that just didn't understand the film. From the mood setting backdrops to the intellectual story telling, Dreamland is a must see!

Ed Wood, perhaps the worst film maker of all time left us gems that are SO bad, they delight, being unintentionally funny and therefore charming and innocent.James Lay, and his financial backers (Mom and Dad, it seems from the credits) have created in 'Dreamland' a film just as poorly made as any Ed Wood film, but lacking any charm or innocence. Dreamland simply stinks, and about the only good thing about this 90 minute waste of time is the certain knowledge that James Lay and his fellow perps will never make another picture again.I must mention some of the dramatic lengths some of the crew took to avoid being associated with this horrible picture. I'm sure the production controller, once seeing the completed film, demanded to have his or her name changed in the credits to 'Donna Snartlebutt' and the accounting done by 'Brutus'. One can imagine 'Brutus' with his roll of 5 dollar bills paying the crew at the end of a shooting day.I wont mention the many technical problems with this pathetic little videotape, but I must mention a few commentaries that compare this slag to the work of David Lynch. You know you have turned out a real stinker when you have your mom log into IMDb and post such astonishing BS - no one , save violent mental patients, could -ever- mistake 'dreamland' with -anything- produced by Lynch. What a horrific slight against Mr. Lynch and his work.Go back to film school, Mr Lay.

This film is kick *ss for creative types, dark and mysterious! I had to watch this film THREE TIMES before I really got all the, in many cases, very subtle clues that are strewn threw the film. Even though it is clear the film is low budge, it was executed with a great sense of style and attention to detail. I can't understand there are so many people that don't get it, the frickin title is "DREAMLAND?" DUH! I saw this film as a "David Lynch ventures into Time Travel" experiment which I LOVE, it's just not a popcorn flick, you're going to have to watch it, every moment, to piece it together. You can't be a rigid lunk head if you're going to get this film. The critics like this film....I loved this film! There are some great scary moments in this film that me had jumping right out of my skin several times. I don't want to spoil the film for anyone else but the way the Director built tension using the unknown of the darkness as well the sounds and music, this film really created a consistent Erie mood. There is a blue look to the picture that gives the film a distant feeling, I liked that choice and felt it was a unique look. This is not an easy film to understand, however I did enjoy the the time travel theories that were explored in this film. I have seen comments about David Lynch films here and I saw David Lynch's last film "Inland Empire", Dreamland is a straight forward children's tale compared to how hard it is to understand "Inland Empire". Dreamland feels intuitive to me, much more about mood and flavor, so rigid traditional male minds are going to have much more of problem enjoying this film as it seems evident in the simple minded negative reviews I have seen here. Seems there is little patience for any film that does not resemble all other boring and predictable films that are made nowadays. There is a big change at the end of the film in mood and what you think is going to happen, that was great! Many films I watch you don't need to watch the end because you know how it is going to end up, that did not happen with this film. The end was more sentimental than most sci fi type films, the events at the end were a welcome and refreshing change to the many sci fi and horror film endings I have seen in the past.
