I admittedly love the genre, zombie movies were once a guilty pleasure thrust into the limelight with the startling popularity of The Walking Dead, Zombieland, and others. However the some of us have been zombie aficionados have been around a bit longer. You are far more likely to hear us mention Fulci and O'Bannon, as well as, titles like Zombie, Cemetery Man, and Return of the Living Dead, occasionally throwing in more recent ones like La Horde and Dead Snow. After the screening in February, I added Rockabilly Zombie Weekend to this list, and yes, I'll tell you why. 1. Zombies, duh. There is no such thing as a bad zombie. There are different interpretations, of course, but no one is wrong. Until you have one knocking on your door trying to consume you, take it with a little imagination. The Special Effects Crew was phenomenal, making even my cast iron stomach squiggle, in some of the shots.2. Speaking of shots....that one zombie who took the dive over the bushes at the hospital...BRILLIANT!3. This is a completely local CENTRAL Florida production. Seriously, it's another project helping us out from beneath the Giant Shadow of Disney. 4. The writer, director, and all of the cast and crew hit their marks exactly the way it was planned.5. I laughed, just like the other films I referenced above, Rockabilly Zombie Weekend has some amazing top tongue-in-cheek humor going on. Although not nearly as revealing, but performance by Michelle Elise reminded me of Linnea Quigley in Return of the Living Dead. Watch it, laugh, ogle, squeal, root for the zombies, root for the heroes, and JUST ENJOY IT. THIS IS A ZOMBIE MOVIE. I REPEAT THIS IS A ZOMBIE MOVIE.

I'm a pretty big fan of zombie movies. I love going to zombie walks, I've read the Zombie Survival Guide multiple times, I'm pretty much your definitive zombie fan. What I saw on that screen was an absolute travesty. It disappointed me greatly from what I was expecting. If I could erase those memories from my brain, I would, but unfortunately, memories of this god awful abortion of a movie are going to follow me to my grave. Thinking about this movie makes me want to physically hurt someone. Perhaps the directors, perhaps the actors. I don't know. I thought every part of it was garbage undeserving of a single star.

I was one of the unfortunate ones to attend the screening for this movie. It's bland, unoriginal, and lacking in so many areas. It has mad potential and could probably be perfected by another director and cast, but this time around, it's not worth investing your time in. Frankly, I think it's up there with The Room in the big bad list of awful movies. Not saying you shouldn't listen to other critics, but they're probably involved with the movie in some way if they're saying anything positive about it. Honestly, I don't think there's any other way to make any sort of valid defense for this movie. It's not for the die hard cinema fanatic, nor the casual moviegoer. Do yourself a favor and avoid it in the future.
