It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

I re-watched Kudumba Puranam on TV recently. It is a family drama directed by Sathyan Anthikad - the master of family dramas. While not as funny as Thalayana Manthram or Pon Mutta Idunna Tharavu, Kudumba Puranam was reasonably engaging. The miserly antics of Balachandra Menon and Sreenivasan as the drama actor makes this film worth a watch. New generation Malayalis might find the film to be quite old fashioned with regard to the the attitudes of the male characters towards the females of the family. Thilakan turns in an effortlessly brilliant performance as always. It is a simple film that propagates simple ideas about families. Parvathi looked very beautiful. Maniyan Pillai Raju as the Gulf returned Malayali also deserves a mention.
