Why so much hype?
Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.
A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Mary Christmas is the best Christmas movie made in years. It contains all the elements of an excellent Christmas movie. The outstanding writing of Betty G. Birney and story by Stanley M. Brooks come together with quality acting and production. The simple writing of a letter to Santa by a lonely little girl joins the letter of a TV personality on a news show to form the basis of the magic of all great Christmas stories. The magic starts early and increases throughout the story. Believable, wonderful, hope and despair combine to keep us engrossed in the storyIf you want the warmth and joy that great Christmas movies bring be sure to see Mary Christmas.
I really enjoy (note I watch it still time to time) this hopefully soon to be classic! And what a wonderful plot twist. I also like how Mr. Schneider portrayed his role in a strong protective way. It was his way or the highway, as it should be, but tempered with a fathers love for the most precious thing in his life, (SPOILER!!!!!!) his adopted daughter! The character Mary was a breath of fresh air! An imperfect and mistake making women who no longer acted like a young girl with experience enough to be able to take things as they come and make the best for everyone, not just herself, out of the various situations.Dukes of Hazzard may of been a silly show, but you must note that if you watch it, it moves along briskly staying interesting with the correct camera shots that are never tedious or for the sake of the art of the shot itself. I can see where John gets his chops as a director and I think he did an excellent job!
Is this the worst movie ever? Well... Probably. An ugly kid with no acting skills whatsoever wants a new mother from Santa(Hell, the kid is like 11-12 years and still believes in Santa, wtf's up with that? Honestly). All the actors are terrible and this is one of this movies you get angry from watching and that red button on the remote seems extremely inviting. The plot sucks too, I don't know, but Americans seems to like making films about spoiled little brats. The thing is, the movie makers obviously wants you to feel sorry for the main character, but it's really hard. The kid is ugly, annoying and stupid. Not a good combination so to say.I don't know anything good to say about this film. The director and the writers should be forbidden to make any more films for the rest of their pitiful lives.I don't have time to write anything else... All I can say is: Don't watch this trash!
This 2002 film by Heartland Entertainment was rebroadcast on PAX-TV ever the weekend of 19-21 Dec 2003, so I taped it then watched it just last night. I thoroughly enjoy movies with plot twists (which I also never spoil) and I didn't see this one coming. A very enjoyable film and an excellent vehicle for John Schnieder - who also directed. Also, the role of Guv'nor was very well filled by Tom Bosley (of Happy Days fame). All around good casting, acting and direction. If you didn't catch it this year, I highly recommend it for future Christmas viewings.
