I LOVED this movie. Go try to buy it on ebay,it goes for no less than $70-80 dollars! Disney NEEDS to re-release this movie on VHS and DVD WITH extras. A great spooky Mystery for kids and teens. Has a wonderful feel to it. Why Disney doesn't make more like this, escapes me. It's also sad that the main character(Alexander played by Steve Shaw) died in a motorcycle accident at the age of 25. (in 1990). I'm also researching where the other actors are that played in this movie. We should all email Disney till they re-release this again. My own kids love this movie as well!
LOVED this movie. Couldn't get enough of it for a time, and the books that surrounded it [like The Dreadful Future of Blossom Culp or something like that by Richard Peck]. It's way too scary for little kids, but kids over about the age of 8 or 9 may get a big kick out of it. Haven't seen it for years, though, so it might be a little too dated for the average 2003 kid to enjoy.
I finally found this movie after a long search, and it was worth the wait. I was about 7 when it appeared on television in the late '70s, and I have never forgotten it. I have a six year old girl now who was absolutely riveted by it. If you ever have a chance to rent or buy this (hard to do, its been OOP for a while), please do so. The scene where the little ghost girl Inez becomes real for a moment to dance a waltz with the little boy in the story still gets me. What a great movie!
Excellent film, which I recommend for everyone in the family.Alexander Armsworth and his family move to an authentic antebellum plantation, once owned by a river pirate during the civil war. Blossom, a schoolmate of Alexander's who has a crush on him, lives nearby. Alexander sees a suspicious light in the garage, and upon investigation finds a ghost and her ghostly dog. She tells him her name, Inez, and asks for his help in finding the "child of glass" so that she can go to her eternal rest.During a seance with Blossom, Alexander finds out that the river captain killed the little girl when she wouldn't tell him where the family treasure was, and cursed her to wander the plantation till doomsday. Alexander and Blossom try to solve the riddle; along the way there's an elegant party given by Alexander's mother, which Inez's ghost dog wrecks chasing the family cat; there's a drunken caretaker that is fired for negligence and decides to take out his anger on Alexander; and a fire that levels the garage and everyone thinks Alexander was inside.Alexander falls down an abandoned well, and when Blossom rescues him, she finds the "child of glass". Together, they take it to Inez's crypt in a dark cemetery, where girl and doll are finally reunited. Inez can finally rest, but as a thank you she leaves them with a fantastic gift. This film is a must for everyone. It's got ghosts, mystery, spooky cemeteries and suspense. Steve Shaw, who plays Alexander, is very, very good, and Katy Kurtz plays Blossom with panache. My kids loved this movie, as does everyone who watches it. It's hard to find, though, since it's not for sale anymore. It was adapted from the book "The Ghost Belonged to Me".
