Pretty Good
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

The idea is cute but the execution comes across really awkwardly. I watched this with my roommates to procrastinate studying for finals. The dialogue is half baked and a lot of the acting doesn't really seem to match the situation, it's either way too much or not nearly enough. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I watched this, but its terribly cringe worthy and I wouldn't watch it again. It's like a rough sketch that isn't quite ready to become a classic quite yet. The savior of the film comes in the form of Uncle Richard, who is wonderful in every sense. The father is slightly too meddlesome to be all that realistic and the boyfriend shows up so late in the movie. Characters introduced in the beginning of the film are forgotten so easily and replaced without apology. We watched the movie in its entirety and then immediately put on a video of a fireplace, which ultimately ended up being more soothing and "feel good." It's a cute movie for the whole family, but older kids might just cringe through the whole thing.
I am on a quest to watch every Christmas theme film ever made. I have seen over 50 in the past year alone and this one is one the best. For a change of pace this film is not about a poor young widowed mother. (That seems the major plot lines for Hallmark Movies) Its about "Love" and taking chances. In this film a soldier on leave (John Newton) visits a small town and falls for the woman (Alice Evans) who wrote a well-wishing card to the troops. The whole town has in fact sent soldiers Christmas Cards that have been fighting in Iraq. When one soldier loses his friends in combat his commander suggest that he "take leave". The soldier has no family of his own but his commander tells him he needs to go back to the USA to remember what he is really fighting for. This is a perfect movie. The film never drags. The leads are attractive. The location a beautiful co-star. Merry Christmas
This is the sort of feel good film that I love to watch at Christmas. My wife and I are Christmas fanatics and not particularly the commercialism of it, more the atmosphere of warmth and goodwill. This film falls perfectly into that category. There's something about the background music that I love as well. Yes, it's a bit cheesy but is that a bad thing? In an era when many films are violent, there's something quite wholesome about this movie. Yes it is idealistic but we can all dream of a life like this, can't we. I would rather sit and watch a film with my family and feel like it has been a worthwhile experience, than watch something which does not make you feel happy. Can anyone recommend films which are equally as good, or films which have particularly been made by this director. I love John Newton and Alice Evans as well.
What is the meaning of this part? Cody goes into the office and is returning the tally sheet, and puts it on Faiths desk, and looks at pictures, and then leaves. What's the point of that?? Also, when Cody saves the father and their both on the ground, everyone asks if the dad is okay, but no one asks Cody if he's okay! ):We would have liked to see all of them go back to the house on Christmas morning and celebrate together. The ending at the bridge is to abrupt and leaves you hanging. The idea of bringing the food to the bridge is ridiculous, and anyway what restaurant is opened on Christmas Day?!?! Why would she have even bothered to stop, knowing she may never see the man she loves again???We think that the fiancé does live in Nevada city. We always laugh that she's wearing the same sweater in the picture and in person. WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE A SEQUEL OF THIS MOVIE!!!!!!
