Trailer Synopsis Cast

Every day Pete Rose wakes up and goes to work. He's surrounded by bats, balls, gloves, and fans, and approaches each day with the same gusto which defined him on the field. But instead of a dugout, he's seated in a folding chair in a memorabilia store in Las Vegas. Nicknamed "Charlie Hustle" for his efforts on the field, Rose, now 71, agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball in 1989 after an investigation concluded he bet on games when he was the manager for the Cincinnati Reds. The ban has left him ineligible for induction into the Hall of Fame. He leads baseball with 4,256 career hits. - Written by ESPN Films

This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

30 for 30 Shorts: Here Now (2013) Pete Rose starts off talking about how he gets up every morning and travels a few miles to do his job. His job? Signing autographs twenty days a month. This twelve-minute short shows us Pete walking to work, sitting at his desk signing things and just carrying on with the people who pay to get his signature. This is certainly a rather interesting and sad film for a number of reasons. I think everyone familiar with Rose knows he was banned from baseball and they also know that he makes a living by signing things. Actually seeing him do this at first seemed a little bit depressing but then you realize that a lot of people don't get the chance to meet someone like Rose so him being out there and available is kind of special in its own way. Hearing Rose talk about second chances is certainly bittersweet but it's impossible not to enjoy what he has to say. He talks about batting, gives advice to people and so much more. Rose is certainly an interesting character and this is a wonderful look at what he does in a day.Episode: A
