All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

Huh. No one reviewed this yet? That's interesting. This was the first Tyler Perry production I had seen that didn't star Tyler Perry himself. While "Why Did I Get Married: The Play" did not feature him onstage either, remember it came out on DVD in 2006. This one came out in 2004, and I'm reviewing these in the order they were released. The word I would use to describe this play is fun. This is a fun play; how can it not be fun? It's a full play about Mr. Brown! Cora also gets a lot of laughs in this play! Her character is stretched here, and Tamela Mann has grown as an actress. It's interesting seeing Brown's family here. It's ironic that he comes from a dysfunctional family that includes a drunken sister, a wise-cracking brother, a nephew who was caught cheating on his wife, and a niece who can't get over the passing of her son. One would think Brown comes from a family of church ministers. The dramatic moments aren't as heavy here as they are in other plays like "Diary" or "I Can Do Bad." They make for some nice conflicts, but the comic moments definitely drive this play, as they should. Not only is Brown hilarious as all get out, but the other characters are funny as well, particularly L.B. and Vera. The stories and characters are good, but the comedy is what really drives this play. And kudos to these performers to be able to pull this off without Madea, that's not easy as you'd think it is. David and Tamela Mann, having been on the road with Tyler Perry for years, really take leadership on the stage as far as knowing when to break the fourth wall, when to let people laugh, and when to pull back on the comedy. Check it out for yourselves. BOOYIKA!
