The Stagg Do is a film directed by James DeMarco and written by James DeMarco and Martin Paterson and is bonkers. But its bonkers in a fun great way.I was swapping tweets with some of the crew and a comment that cropped up a couple of times was 'Its not a film for everyone'. I could see where that comment came from and well, most films aren't for everyone but The Stagg Do is a film for most people. A mental comedy film that is about friendship and life. Four friends go on a stag do (the male party before a wedding) in the hope of having one fantastic blow out before Staggy (played by Andrew Stagg) marries his fiancé, Charlotte (played by Therase Neve). Booze, Women and insanity is all lined up by the guys but things turn a little trickier when Charlotte makes sure that her Father, 'The Judge' goes along to keep an eye on everyone. But that doesn't mean the night will be uneventful. The Stagg Do is a lot of fun to watch with snappy realistic sarcastic dialogue and anyone who has long term friends who love to drink and say what they wish should be able to relate to some of the craziness. I hate labeling films but could this be the 'Geordie' version of The Hangover. It could be… Shot on a low budget but it doesn't really show, I bet the shoot was a lot of fun. The guys behind the film have done a fantastic job on The Stagg Do and I can see this film becoming one of those films carried by word of mouth into the type of film that is quoted for years Like the way Four Lions is quoted left right and centre. There are so many one liners in here that already I've seen people on social media using the quote 'fanny f*cking-tastic' when it comes to talking about not only just this film but things in general. Even the DVD menu has 'Play Fillum' and 'Fanny-tastic Features which made me chuckle before the movie had even begun. The cast also do a wonderful job and its always a pleasure to see Craig Conway (The Descent,The Myth Of Hopelessness) doing comedy. Im a fan of his dramatic work but also a huge fan of his comedic roles (How To Stop Being A Loser) Martin Paterson who co wrote the film does a great job in the role of Pob, the best man, hated by Charlotte but with a heart of gold. This is Martins screen debut but hopefully not his last appearance. I could go on about the cast, but check out the film for yourself and see which characters are your favourites.I cant wait to check out whats next from the guys and girls behind The Stagg Do. It was such a fun way to spend an hour and ten minutes. Grab yourself some beers, a pizza and put your feet up. Check out The Stagg Do. A film made by people with a sense of humour for people with a sense of humour.

I'd seen The Stagg Do trailer so many times and also kept a close eye on the fundraising videos for this film.I had a sketchy idea of the plot but was interested to see James De Marco and Zee Zomorrodian's authentic Geordie movie in its entirety. I saw the film at is DVD launch in December 2015, and I had got to know both JDM and ZZ a little before seeing the film. I still didn't know quite what to expect from the film. With the movie being so 'Geordie' - and not entirely a fully-fledged one myself (I live closer to the other river and a bit to far south, near the Cathedral) - I was worried it might be a little cringy but hoped for the best. I knew I would enjoy it either way, just wasn't sure to what level. However, I laughed out loud with the rest of them and enjoyed this fantastic production from the offset. There are some great one- liners in there and the characters are amazing. My personal faves are The Judge and The Registrar, but Martin Paterson does an immense job as pure Geordie Pob. The movie definitely catches the key ingredients of Geordie culture without overdoing it, and the jokes, one-liners and funny moments are truly hilarious. If you are a Geordie or not, this film is well worth watching - or even buying (I have my copy) - and I will be watching it again soon, probably one Friday night with a bottle of Brown Ale and a Greggs pasty. I hear rumours of a follow up and look forward to watching that develop. Also, special note goes to the amazing soundtrack of local artists (I am biased) but there is a raft of local talent on there and features a range of musical styles that will suit everyone's tastes. The music in the film is great, and the songs are used well during scenes. Gan on, gerrit watched, spend a bit coin on yer copy, buy the soundtrack, buy the T-shirt! Seriously though, you will enjoy it. Well done to all involved.

I found out about this film when a friend pointed me in the direction of the creators crowd-sourcing project - I liked the sound of the project and with a friend involved I decided to back the project. The resulting film is excellent - it is a true British film with being rude, crude but hilarious! This reminds me of the tradition of the Carry On films.Stag and hen nights are such a cultural part of the UK that it is great to see a humorous take on the institution that works so well for me as a viewer.I loved it and I didn't even need a translator!

I first became aware of The Stagg Do through Facebook. Having been on my fair share of Stagg do's and with it having a (by and large) local cast I followed closely as the premier hove into view. This is, like many, a film produced on a budget. However that by no means belittles the film or the cast and crew that put it all together. Indeed the premier(held in Newcastle)was a lavish affair with the brown ale flowing and more pork scratchings than you could shake a stick at. (Which I firmly believe, is how they're made)Now on to the film, a fairly standard story of boy from the wrong side of the tracks meets girl from the slightly better side of Darras Hall (Google it) They fall in love and the boy, being of traditional northern stock agrees to a Stagg party which as usual doesn't go to plan and the future father in law does his best to spoil the fun.Not being a professional film critic (or particularly well educated) all I can say is that I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Considering a lot of the cast were first timers I thought the acting was very good. The production of the film was flawless and the story line was, by and large very funny, if at some times a bit bizarre. If you have the opportunity to see the film I thoroughly recommend you do so.
