McEnroe/Borg: Fire & Ice (2011)*** 1/2 (out of 4)Highly entertaining documentary from HBO about the short rivalry between legends Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe. The film starts off talking about both of their early childhoods, how they got into tennis and then we get to Borg's rise to the top and then McEnroe's entrance. Whether you're a fan of tennis or not one should really enjoy this documentary because it does a great job at showing people what made both man so special in their own way and it's also fascinating to see how well they were made for each other even when they didn't have too much in common. The most noteworthy moment in their rivalry is the 1979 Wimbledon championship where McEnroe started off getting booed only to resort to some of the greatest match point saves in the history of the sport. The final fifteen-minutes or so of the film gets into the men's lives after tennis and this too is rather interesting. If you've seen any of the sports documentaries from HBO then you know what to expect and that's top entertainment and quality. The documentary features all sorts of comments from the writers who were covering the men at their highest moments but best of all is that we've got both McEnroe and Borg on hand to discuss the matches, their lives and each other.
