Voyage of Jeanette
April. 15,2024Constructed out of personal notes, both verbal and visual, Voyage of Jeanette is an essay film that poses questions about the intersection between image production and the creation of narratives, which shape our perception of contemporaneity and manifest in our performances of history, heritage, and memory. Positioned in the Yakutian Arctic, the film invites the viewer to ask vital questions about the meaning of peripheries and how western ontologies of discovery and the writing of history are absorbed into or contrast with immediate Yakutian realities.
Reviews
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
