I usually don't like family dramas. I like some edge-of-the-seat thrills. Saivam is an exception. I was at the edge of my seat even though it is a family entertainer. The director has done a wonderful job with the Cast and has worked very meticulously to harness each person's talent. Sara Arjun steals the show all the way. This movie has subtle social messages all through. The director has shown very nice messages like the innocence of child bringing down tensions in the home or innocence of a child uniting the family. Concepts such as these are lost in today's cinema. Sometimes kids know more than adults, but adults don't let their egos down and listen to them. This movie shows instances of that concept through a child's innocence. The film also touches on certain practices, particularly around stone-age religious practices that still dwells in many places in South India. The 3 best scenes in the movie that I liked 1) When Tamizh saves face for the childless couple in front of the lady's classmate: Beautiful direction. A classic difference between a happy movie and a sad one. 2) When Tamizh asks her uncle what's wrong if Senthil and Abhirami get to know each other. Several families move apart for the smallest and silliest of reasons as was this case. But a kid's commonsense turns on the light bulb in the parent's mind. 3) When everyone get to know that Paapa is in the house and they still cover up. Beautiful portrayal of the family coming back together again. Every single actor plays an important role in this movie. Every person is utilized to the fullest and to the max that the role could ask for. Exceptional, I have not seen too many movies where each character is utilized so well. The stand out characters are Tamizh, Kathiresan, Saravanan. the movie took me from my childhood days, all across my teens into my being and adult and married with a family. Such a happy movie.

I have not seen a single Kollywood flick, in fact, any Indian movies from since 2 years. But recently saw a couple of Tamil films and this was one of them. Very much satisfied and I'm glad I went for it. Like I always say, the songs are what turns me off in Indian cinema, that is the reason stayed away. This movie had those, but I was not frustrated because they are blended very well to the narration. There is no sudden jump into the dance floor with colourful costumes, but most of the tracks are background song. I liked that classical soundtrack with the veenai, really catchy and the meaningful lyrics. That song called 'Azhagu' won two Indian Academy Awards for best playback singer and best lyrics. An inspiring movie, a message teller, something we could learn or adopt from it. The adults are always, well, most of them obey the law without asking any questions that came from the previous generation to them and teach it to their kin as well. That's how the traditions passed to and survived till date. That is good, but in the modern India there are no actions taken to abolish the some of the brutal believes which are more than two millenniums old. The changes come from the children, who asks so many questions. This is such a movie takes place on that kind of theme, which is inspired by a true childhood event of the director's mother. Then, do the god is like us? Expects something in return to do us a favour? It's a second movie of Sara Arjun's I'm seeing and she was so good. She was not the lead, but only the part of the movie. There is no particular lead character. The story simply based and follows after the incident that shocks a whole family when they unite for the native festival in their village. When theirs concern grows bigger over the issue and the tale reaches more tighter plot and faster in portrayal. And then bang, the end comes like suddenly everything goes silent for a moment. The movie is not hard to predict, especially the end was as expected. It's simply a family entertainment, give comfort feeling and leaves no reason to complain about. Every role had a wonderful display, great performances by all the cast. The sub-plots like teen romance and kids fight, are all fine additions for the extra fun. This is actually a short movie even though it ran 2 hours because usually Indian movies reach the 3 hour mark and that's a plus point. As I consider my judgement on this product, I would say it's a must see movie. But that does not mean It's a genuine, the only reason I liked it for is this film wanted to say something good to the society. This kind of movies definitely good to build a better tomorrow around us.8.5/10

"Saivam"A movie about bond between family relations and incidents which happens in our family, message of vegetarianism. At 8 years old Sarah is my favourite actress, her expressions of cringing in fear regarding the safety of cock, smile that brings cheer to everybody, solving problems by not knowing the actual situation, she reminds us of younger girl child in our family.Pros: When a cook in the family by lying the cock was found easily brings the entire family to a place when everyone is separated due to a issue, reminds us the value of the true servants in our family how he shares rapport with everybody in the family and how he has nothing to loose in critical situations but can do anything to bring happiness to a family.Family bonding, love for the animals, large houses, Sarah, the little boy who fights with Sarah, teenage love, team work. Once you start watching this movie you will easily get into the family, such that you will know what is the situation each character will face next or do next as it entirely replicate our family like the question the childless women is going to get her about child in the temple, a grown up girl not being allowed to talk to the grown up boy almost all the scenes happened to everyone of us or watched by us happening to our relatives.Nirav Shah's cinematography of using only flames by lamp and light from fire in a song, natural lights used inside our house and scenes reflecting early morning shows us the value of him and whenever I thought and situation needed a background score he brought one.Cons: Not a single scene to bring out much tears which we seen a lot in the director and Sarah duo's previous combination, which would have brought us some more affectionate into the characters. Sometimes the Sarah character is cinematic.Verdict: Totally a movie about affable characters for those who are affable and those who aren't.Director: A.L.Vijay Photogrphy: Nirav Shah Music: G. V. Prakash Kumar Actress: Sarah Arjun( 8 year old girl),Nassar and many intriguing actors.P.S: sorry to the person on whose leg I walked over without intention while running in a hurry and thanks to him for later helping me out by flashing light from his mobile phone while finding my dropped mobile phone.
