This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

On the spolight in leading roles: Vijay, Sudeep and Sridevi. After a teaser that hits and two briliant announcements (trailers), the film results in a pale copy of Hollywood movies from the 80's a gender like "The Neverending Story" by Wolfgang Petersen, US-Germain production. I would say that the aesthetic side, unoriginal, takes over the scenario which is not with real foundations! The "Madrasi" director: Chimbu Deven, should have taken more time to refine, in sculpting all the pieces in terms of funds and souls especially when you got legend actors served on a silver platter like Sridevi. Bad choice, greed or eager to play an evil queen? Sridevi has nevertheless declined, at the time the offer of Sri Srisaila director Rajamouli for Baahubali: The beginning, a huge international success which has blown up at any boxe office. The diva remains remarkable by her presence but she radiates in noway through her lines and the assigned role allegedly sold to her as decisive and "Key" is empty. Her character: Yavana Rani appears only an hour after the intermission. The thrilling moment is the final scene where she excels at will in a "mortal" combat. The film is told for young children, while there are scenes of a high degree of barbarity that the CSA in France could prohibit it under 8 years. Many inconsistencies even if one does not look for logic in a fantastic trip but common sense would have been rigorous in that story. The very secondary roles Shruti Hassan, cold and little locace (I would rather prefer to see Priya Anand in this role) Hansika Motwani is just right in her role as hot and cutesy princess. Both have roles devoid of depth with their dialogues they had better kept them mimic. Far from being a drawback: their dream and glamorous sequences are typical Kollywood including the not bad performance sequence by Hansika "Mannavanae Mannavanae" : epic and rhythmic. Vijay saved what could still be saved, thankfully! And that role suits him."Puli": why such a title? ("Tiger" in English) The tribe of tigers to which he belongs to is not explicitly highlighted and do not expect to see the metamorphosis of Vijay in feline, no way ! Romances, emotions and dreams are not forthcoming, no balance in this tale between Shrek and The Hobbit sprinkled with fights and violence at all costs. The songs are melodious nothing more, about the comic scenes, they are Indian, only "funny". The music sounds grandiose to suggest an atmosphere that does not reach our expectations ... It's a shame. If you are fans of Vijay, the movie is worth it, fans of Sudeep, stay awake because he is lacking of expressions, Sridevi fans, you will be disappointed at her part as she could make it more scenic amplitudes as performs a (witch) dance for instance or being much more involved into the plot, if plot there was. A suite ? I doubt ... It would be better not.

Good things First: I appreciate the first step of Tamil cinema, to try a different genre of movie. The Visual effects as usual is good but not top notch. The fantasy elements like Lilliputians, talking animals and giants were well done. Few action scenes are well shot. I am really happy that Tamil Cinema is striving for perfection in movie making. Now for where it lost the road - You can't do anything under the banner "Fantasy Film", which requires a gripping story, suspense elements that gives a thrilling experience to those who watch it on screen. Puli lacks it all. The hero of the film (Vijay) doesn't even fit the character, he hasn't done half of what he has done in some of his previous hit films. The 2 beauties Shruthi - who is just a sleeping princess the whole second half, and Hansika merely to fill in Shruthi's place in her absence, Apart from the dancing they play no role in the movie. Music is awful, is this Devi Sri Prasad can come up with for a "Fantasy Film"?, also the songs, they will fit well an usual commercial masala movie. This movie is nothing but a loosely knit story, with chosen elements from some of the well known fantasy films, and the usual antics of a commercial movies mixed and sprayed on the screen without any coherence for 2 and half hours. This movie seems to taunt the intelligence of film lovers. Vijay rescued as Baby parallels with the Perseus of Clash of Titans, Sridevi( the evil princess ) and her daughter Hansika parallels with Rachel and Mila of Oz the Great and Powerful, but the movie failed to parallel with anything.

This film is a mix of comedy, action and more of fantasy. Thambi Ramaiah and Satyan has performed super comedy. A bit of violence is there in the film like slit throat. DSP songs are good. Jingliya song is superb. Nice beats. Vijay has tried something new and he has again given a good film. Story is also great! All locations are scenic and beautiful. I don't know how much animation is there in the film, because it was so realistic. It is a must watch film. Amazing effort from Puli Team and Vijay Puli. People who does not like super powers and fantasy may not like this film. But this film is definitely an entertainer! Hats Off to Director Chimbu Deven!

Positives nothing much to say.only positive could be considered can be acting of sridevi but even her role was very precise.Negatives Firstly this can't be given a 'U' certificate(violence, double meaning, and so on) Poor screenplay, worst music, irritating Bgm. Better vijay could quit movies and go for politics.Too much funny political dialogues and especially his attitude while delivering dialogues was worst to the core.No scope for other actors except vijay. senseless comedies.Worst Computer graphics, even a cartoon will be better. On the whole please avoid this movie in order to safeguard yourself from mental tortures and also save your money.
