A Masterpiece!
Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
I'm watching this fer the 3rd time. I love it. It reminds me of the Japanese movie 1r2b. Or something like that.
Janie (Alexa Vega) is a brainy young lady attempting to get a scholarship at a prestigious graduate university. Her roommate Dee (Spencer Grammer) is a "slut" who enjoys her vices. These polar opposite women compete to sell their eggs, a completion that evolves into a knock down, drag out cat fight. We have all seen those horror films where there is a psychotic roommate who emulates the other one. I can think of four off the top of my head. However, in this movie, both the women believe the other one wants to emulate them, and they go out of their way to "help" the other one by destroying their lives all from the inside of their home (low budget). The production is not a horror/thriller film, but rather a dark comedy. If you have seen 3-4 roommate type film, you should be able to appreciate this one.Guide: F-bomb. brief sex. Male butt nudity.
The only reason I gave this movie two stars, rather than one is because I actually thought enough of the movie to sit through the entire movie in high hopes it would get better. The movie starts off with one roommate beating the crap out of the other and then it rewinds to earlier that day to explain why. After that, the plot maintains stability and interest for about 20 minutes. After that, the entire plot is a bit loose and quite boring. We have no idea how it came to be that these two mentally unstable and completely opposite lead characters decided to live together, obviously without even knowing each other at all beforehand. More history, rather than "We have 341 days left on the lease" would have been better for the movie's plot and its absent character growth. Have you ever watched the movie "Home Alone" and spent the entire movie wondering, just like I did, "How could this happen (that Culkin's character got left behind by his own mother)??!" Well, you are going to do the same thing for 95 minutes - only this time you will wonder how they became roommates in the first place. And just when you thought you have seen enough cat fighting, here comes the ending. And it's terrible. Just the horrible icing on an already poor cake. So, not only do you get no history between the characters, you are left with no future with them, either.A cross between "Single White Female" and "War of the Roses."
This movie is all about simple cat fight which turns into a violent one. The entire movie is about a day, and it was so bizarre. Things are happening without any sequence. One moment one girl showing something or doing something that irritates the other person, next moment she amends that or apologize. And it goes vice versa throughout the film. Which does not make any sense at all.Now about the acting only main two girls acting was tolerable but the acting of the rest of the cast looks like they are the relatives of the producer or the director. Talk about overacting and silly expressions, they were expert on that. But at the end where the intense scene was taking place, there the main two actresses' acting became pretty sloppy too. And the ending, it is the best worst part of the movie. In the final scene both actresses depicted worst acting skill ever, their achievement throughout the film falls apart in this scene, you will agree with me if you watch the movie. But I highly recommend you to avoid the film unless you are into cat fights.I am giving the movie 3 stars only because the efforts the two main character put into the movie.
