Highly Overrated But Still Good
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
This was a good movie... Had a "Strike Back" feel to it, of which I am a fan as well. There was action and military spy type of drama. It was enjoyable and I truly dont understand the harsh criticism. Definitely worth a watch.
Once again a modern-day action thriller seems to be universally hated among fellow 'net reviewers, and I can't see why. STRATTON isn't a great movie, that's for certain, but is it absolutely pitiful as my fellow reviewers would have you think? Not a bit of it. It's a cheap, gritty, terrorist-focused story in which SBS action man Dominic Cooper tracks down a mastermind with disaster in mind. The story is based on a novel by hard-nut author Duncan Falconer. This British film is full to the brim of small-scale but elaborate action sequences, from fist fights to car chases, shoot-outs and big explosions. The plot is predictable and has holes at times, but the story has real momentum that makes this a very easy watch, and that's all I really ask for. Cooper is well supported by an intriguing cast that includes Connie Nielsen, Gemma Chan, Derek Jacobi, Thomas Kretschmann and Tom Felton, and some of the stunts and choreography aren't too bad at all.
I actually rented this. There goes £4.50 Awful acting, poorly shot. The bus chase is on a test track ffs
I think reviewers are being a little harsh about this film. It's an action thriller featuring the SBS, MI6 etc. Mainly British cast with a couple of token Americans. Gemma Chan is superb, with a different actress her role wouldn't be memorable but she really helps things along. Derek Jacobi, unsurprisingly good. Unlike many reviews, I think Dominic Cooper did a good job, especially given the lack of time he had to prepare for this. Connie Nielsen however was an odd choice, her posh British accent varied in intensity and felt awkward. You can't compare this to a big budget Bond/Bourne/Mission Impossible, but I found it entertaining.
