Very best movie i ever watch
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Like Lurking Fear, Bleeders is also inspired by Lovecraft's short story The Lurking Fear. Basic premise is taken from Lovecraft, but plot is completely different than both previous movie and original story. Although, this time it's pretty solid. Screenplay I liked a lot, movie not so much. I have no specific objections, it's simply that overall impression is white-livered. Decent entertainment for genre fans.5/10
I had not heard of Bleeders, or it's other title Hemoglobin before but when I saw that it had Rutger Hauer in it I had to watch it as he has always been a favourite actor of mine. Bleeders is actually based on Lovecraft's 'The Lurking Fear' and there are traces of Lovecraftian horror in this film. It begin with a voice over explaining how the King of Holland forbade any interbreeding in aristocratic marriages so Eva Van Dam who was in an incestuous relationship with her twin brother fled with her family to a remote island. Centuries later, John and Kathleen Strauss arrive looking for a cure for John's blood disease. There secrets are uncovered and the full horror of John's condition is revealed. There are some nice Gothic moments and some genuinely creepy atmosphere which help but the only problem is that the creatures are really not that scary. They are completely deformed but really not that frightening. The film might have been a little more effective if the Van Dam creatures had only only glimpsed occasionally as scuttling shadows. It might have added to the eeriness of the movie rather than seeing them fully. The acting was good with Hauer putting in a good solid performance as did both Roy Dupuis as John and Kristin Lehman as Kathleen. It was still a lot better than what I had expected for a DVD that I picked up in a discount shop for $2.00 though.
Pretty middle of the road "Lovecraftian" adaptation that continuously bogs down. Incest and evil deformed creatures that live in tunnels beneath an isolated island, should have worked better. The main problem is the characters are either hardly developed, or terminally boring. The movie almost seems like a series of random events, including a pretty intense, and totally gratuitous sex scene. Rutger Hauer delivers the only acceptable performance as he gradually pieces things together. The film has good atmosphere, nice locations, and grotesque creatures, but fails to impress, because it is so slow building toward the rather disappointing conclusion. - MERK
Awesome! duh. top 1. well i think this movie is really awesome for starters the quote at the end of the movie makes the movie. well yes if you are a hardcore movie buff you'll love this movie because you'll be able to appreciate it for what its worh...but if you just someone who watches movies for their realisticness then prolly not the right movie for you. It has pretty low rate effects and its got some lame parts but entirely the movie is sweet and should be viewed by anyone who really loves horror movies. and anyone who hasn't seen this movie should go buy it.... no don't rent it.... buy it because that how sweet it is.... yea thats my opinion. so take it to heart. and the bank.
