So much average
Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
I still can't believe havent watched this movie , Priyanka nailed it , she proves that no one can beat her she truly nails her role so well , she's just fabulous , love you PC !
One of the best dark thrillers Bollywood has offered, 7 Khoon Maaf is a stirring, dark film. The film deals with Susanna (Priyanka Chopra) who, in her quest for 'true love' murders each of her husbands one after the other (played by Neil Nitin Mukesh, John Abraham, Irrfan Khan and many others). The story starts off with Priyanka Chopra holding a gun to her head and from there on, the film has you in it's grasp and doesn't let go of you, even hours after it had ended. The film follows a similar story line throughout - Susanna finds a husband who later is almost inevitably dead - and although it does not get boring at any point of time, I almost start to wonder whether the ending too will be quite the same, but it does not disappoint. Many thrillers have a good body but disappointing endings. 7 Khoon Maaf is not one among them. The acting is nothing short of amazing. Priyanka Chopra's acting is effortless and is definitely one of her best. The actors playing the husbands are really quite good too - Neil Nitin Mukesh and Annu Kapoor are particularly outstanding. Watch out for some others who appear in the movie - Ruskin Bond, Usha Uthup and Konkona Sen Sharma.Although I don't generally like songs in thrillers, I'll make an exception for this film. 'Darling' and 'Oh Mama' make good additions. With a great story, different from the usual, and excellent acting, 7 Khoon Maaf is definitely worth a watch.
Saat Khoon Maaf-A Movie ReviewShe laughs, a certain laugh; too unique, too perfect; and thus commences a spiral staircase of Vishal Bharadwaj, Saat Khoon Maaf. The movie literally is a spiral staircase with every turn swift and predictable but Bharadwaj keeps on getting better and better and Susanna Anna-Marie Johannes is a desperate love-seeker, wanting a perfect husband to complete herself but is challenged with a string of monstrosities in the form of her grooms. She swings and twirls in desperation and contempt trying to figure out her estranged marital life and fighting her womanhood. She reasons and applies and ultimately is left with no other option but murder.Welcome to Saat Khoon Maaf were passions becomes dark, humor becomes gruesome and characters explode on faces with such sincerity that reality and cinematic experience combine at a beautiful delta.Vishal Bharadwaj in his wholesome elegance displays a poetic saga on screen. Everything couples and takes form of a vintage painting painted in deep hues on a burnt canvas. It is the manner if not the matter which truly becomes the heart and soul of this rustic and dark comic thriller.First things first; Vishal Bharadwaj has raised his bar tremendously by displaying his sense and sensibility with style and charisma in encapsulating a next to impossible tale on screen. The screenplay by him and Mathew Robbins (can be read on the new edition of the book titled Saat Khoon Maaf) is so tough to put on. The director brings a tragic grandeur to the film with mere class and grace. The film is largely driven by the exhilarating Priyanka Chopra in what can be categorized as her best act ever. She is stoic, erotic, poised, perplexed, subtle and of course venomous and yet gullible. She roars in the distraught and sorrowful character of Susanna. The husbands are nicely picked with Anu Kapoor (Inspector Keematlal) shining out of the motley lot.The cinematographer creates scenes with such intense tension, especially the close-up shots of the characters. He creates a masterpiece much to the likes of Stanley Kubrick (the disgust and horror of A Clockwork Orange). Every scene, every still is picture perfect. The minute and intricate detailing of the film is mind-boggling. The sets, the chapels, the bungalow, the minuteness is tremendous. What lightens up the film is the careful lightning used with such consciousness with most of the scenes automatically becoming dark and adding to the atmosphere. One of the most tremendous scene of the movie is when the Russian husband is being warned of all the misadventures of his wife and she starts dancing around him. The scene enriches the viewer.Another factor is the music. It soothes and at the same time corrupts the movie with an indulging marvel. Vishal Bharadwaj composes both dark and definitive pieces, extensively fulfilling the demand of the horror genre.Summarizing, the movie is a stellar presentation of an out of the world experience which readily accounts of the masterpieces which can be woven on screen.
Very few names in the Indian film industry command a stature where the name says it all, and Vishal Bhardwaj tops the list! 7 Khoon Maaf is another trademark VB movie which comes with solidly written characters, brilliant performances and a well executed no nonsense direction. If there is one thing you can expect from a VB movie then it would be a STORY and a story told well. While VB draws upon already existing, and sometimes famous written works (If you haven't, then stop reading this and watch Omkara), he has the ability to make it original with his definition of the characters and ability to draw breathtaking performances from his actors. Sussana is another elevation for Priyanka Chopra post Fashion and Kaminey but if you pay attention to easily negotiable characters, the performances of Goonga and Ghalib will leave you speechless and speak volumes about the commitment of VB. Of all the cameos, Neil Nitin Mukesh steals the show and Annu Kapoor probably gave his best performance post Guldasta in Tezaab. Needless to mention the guy (VB) writes, produces, directs and does music for the film yet again which gives him the control and room for creating an impact. If you are a VB fan then you suffer from the same expectation trigger that sets in even before watching the movie. And for this reason the story doesn't keep you on the edge all the time and there are stretched moments, including the song in the end. All said and done 7 is the most appropriate rating for a movie worth a watch.
