Best movie of this year hands down!
one of my absolute favorites!
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
I loved this movie. I didn't think I would but I found myself glued to the set. Bow Wow did a good job and the young cast of guys as his friends were funny. I also love the to girls. The character Tori reminds me of a girl from school was was an ugly duckling on minute then the next she's a hottie. Megan Good is just AMAZINGLY beautiful. Sweetness was SOOOOOO funny. Just the way that character was written just was awesome. I also loved his group that rolled with him. They were funny as well. Mike Epps and Charlie Murphy providing the comic relief was a great touch. All in all it was well worth the watch and I just might rewatch again one day.It wasn't the greatest thing ever but it wasn't as bad as most people have said it was.
2005's Roll Bounce is a fun and entertaining film. I had no interest in seeing it but my mom wanted to and so I rented it from Blockbuster and watched it last night. And I was pleasantly surprised. This was a fun and quite entertaining film. Bow Wow plays Xavier Smith, a teen who lives with his father and younger sister and who's mother has just passed away. He and his friends love to roller skate and one day their beloved skating rink has been shut down. But luckily a new and improved skating rink called Sweetwater opens up. It's owner is a brash, cocky, and handsome guy named Sweetness, played by Wesley Jonathon. Sweetness is an excellent skater, and so Xavier and his friends find out that there's gonna be a skate off in a couple of weeks, so they make a plan to outskate Sweetness and become the best skaters ever. Yeah, this plot does sound a little silly but it was really fun. To me the most entertaining parts of the film were seeing everyone skate and do their skating tricks. Mainly because I never learned to skate and I wonder how they do it! Skating was always so difficult for me. I never could do it! And then seeing these kids on that roller rink skating makes me wish I had learned! It looks like so much fun! So it was very exciting to see these kids perform different methods of skating. All the actors did fine jobs. Especially Bow Wow. He had some great one-liners and he's a cute guy and he seemed to have a lot of fun doing this movie and doing all that skating. He was a blast to watch. And the actors who played his friends had some funny one-liners too and my mom and I were laughing a lot. This was a very funny film also. I forget his name but the actor who played Bow Wow's dad was also really funny. He was a joy to watch too. Nick Cannon was OK in the small role he had. He didn't add anything special to the film and we could've done without him. But he was still pretty funny. But even if the plot of the film sounds silly, I think you should definitely watch this film for the awesome soundtrack! Anyone who grew up in the 70s with 70s music will enjoy it immensely. My mom was loving it! She just kept mentioning how much she loved the soundtrack and she was singing almost every song that came on! I was born in the 80s but I still enjoyed the soundtrack too. And for me that was what added to the excitement of the film. Even if you're not entertained by the skating, you will definitely be entertained by the soundtrack and the music! This was a fun film and I'm glad I rented it. Thank you for reading my review!
This movie brought back a lot of fond memories of the skating rink. It is definitely better than the average score given on IMDb. Despite some adult language by the teens in this movie, the story is light-hearted and tender. Bow Wow Shad Gregory Moss is definitely following in the steps of Will Smith in acting. He's a true talent! This is a family must see for parents 35 to 45 with teen children. A lot of "Awe, man, I used to have one of those/did that" moments: the Atari, the inchworm toy scooter, sissy bar bikes; the all skate, the couples skate, the lady's choice skate, trying not to fall down, learning how to skate backwards, popping the water blisters so you'll be ready to skate next time; young love and young lust without sex; the staying out all day in the neighborhood with your friends during the summertime and not going home until the streetlights flick on. That was the last generation to enjoy childhood innocently - that was my childhood! If you were a child in the late 70's and loved to skate, you will love this movie!
Great movie! Probably because I was not expecting it to be so CLEAN. Black movies have a tendency to slide into reality and over-reality very quickly. This movie was so much fun! From the first rink that reminded me of the dodgy places I use to skate back in the day in New Zealand to the Vegas rink that was up town. The lights, the feel and the vibes made it very entertaining. Sure it was cliché but at least the soundtrack was awesome. Nowadays it's gangs, drugs and guns. I am sure some of us always look back on the good old days with rose tinted glasses and this movie is a testimony to that. Great escapism! When the father comes home and catches the boys slacking off - that was a trip down memory lane...Great Music! Great nostalgia! Everybody needs a little light under the sun!!!
