Pretty Good
Let's be realistic.
Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
the theme. the humor, from the mute early comedies era. the love story, who remains seductive, delicate, the axis of run, fight between reaper and good looking doctor and his nurses, the stairs as image from many familiar films, the end. the first virtue - the delicate way to translate a not comfortable subject in the best manner.because it is a short film about the strong link between lovers. and the expectation of the great meet. the rest - simple tricks, fireworks for a nice story. but the first scenes and, sure, the last, are the basic motif to see this, at first sigh, crazy animation.
Of course, the grandma and the doctor were pretty good too, but the Grim Reaper was something else in these 8 minutes. Completely hilarious and his face expression when the doctor saves her life for the first time was truly priceless. "The Lady and the Reaper" is an Academy award nominated short film from 5 years ago. Javier Recio Gracia, who wrote and directed it, is from Spain, but don't worry if you do not speak Spanish as there is no dialogue in here, just noises from the people. The film begins at its dramatic peak when an old woman longs for death, so she can be reunited with her dead husband again. Everything afterward is huge fun. Good animation, good sound, good music. A successful package we have here. i recommend watching it and actually I would have been fine with this winning the Oscar instead of "Logorama". The director, by the way, is still active in the industry, has worked on "Rise of the Guardians" for example and I hope he gets to make his own feature film at some point. This short film here is evidence enough that he has the talent.
This short was nominated for the Academy Award for Animated Short. There will be spoilers ahead:I think I can safely say that I've never seen an animated short about death which reminded me as strongly of a Tex Avery cartoon as does this one! It's fast, sharp and funny, the animation is great and it has a killer ending (sorry, but I couldn't resist)! The short opens on an old woman, who clearly misses here late husband, going to bed with his picture. There are some nice visual bits of foreshadowing and we then see the woman's ghost separate from her body and she sees a light and then Death. He comes for her and she willingly chooses to go. As they start to cross over-ZAP!-a doctor revives her, much to her dismay and that of Death. Thus begins a battle Royal over this one little old lady, Death on one side, the doctor and his four doting "Stepford nurses" on the other. Death harvests her with his sickle, then doc brings her back to life. The best is yet to come! A totally gonzo scene plays out as various characters play keep away with the lady, eventually ending up with them playing hide and seek in the drawers at the morgue! The gags here must be seen, as words don't do them justice. The lady eventually winds up in a wheelchair rolling down a set of steps built like a roller coaster. Everyone winds up back in the operating room, where Death tosses in the towel and leaves. The lady is revived to see Death leaving alone when she clearly wants to go with him. No one, however, has taken into account just what a determined woman is capable of when she wants something! The end of the short is priceless, so I won't spoil it here. This short is available on DVD and is worth finding. Most recommended.
pure comedy. hilarious in great style. crazy humor. but... it could be only the package. for many films, the end represents the key/the great revelation. not in this case. because the run, the battle between Death and the good looking doctor is , for me, only the package for the state of old lady who prefers the meeting with her husband against the gray life. the show is only the manner to not transform entire story in a sentimental one. and the success is guaranteed. but the flavor of first part remains. so, a film for the dark comedy fans but , in same measure, for the admirers of lovely stories about solitude. so, must see it !
