What a beautiful movie!
Pretty Good
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
I say this a super-hit film because it gives the whole audience a really strong and powerful message and meaning of policemen the songs are excellent as you can keep on listening to the songs direction is superb story-line is brilliant I love the fighting action scenes too thee were brilliant and worth watching akshay did do well Amitabh did fabulous Ajay does good in his 2nd negative role after deewangee other did well my rating 5/5 or 10/10 stars
No matter how good or bad "Khakee" is, I would like to point out that in the States you can get it from Eros Video--the WORST DVD manufacturer I have ever seen. The MENU button won't take you to the movie but forces you to watch previews. Then, after you finally get to the MENU screen and push the PLAY button....you are then forced to watch MORE previews before the film begins. If I know a film is provided through EROS, I generally try to avoid it...and there are other producers of Bollywood films that read the viewer better. The film begins with a suspected ISI (Pakistani) terrorist being arrested by the police and the police beating the man to get a confession. Next, as the man is being taken to some prison, terrorists attack the police convoy and many die. You assume the prisoner escaped...but in the next scene you learn he hasn't and they want Anant (Amitabh Bachchan) to leave his post teaching at the police academy and be responsible for moving this dangerous prisoner. He's relieved because he feels that he's wasted his career in a way...doing nothing all that important. But on the other hand, he is getting older and nearing retirement...and he can finally spend time with his long-suffering family. Quickly Anant makes the decision--to do his duty and make everyone proud. However, after he begins his mission with a small group of police, it soon becomes apparent that there is FAR more to the story and there really isn't any terrorist!! So what's REALLY going on and will Anant and his men survive an all out blitz on them? This film has a theme that might seem surprising to Western audiences but which is very common in Indian films...corruption. The notion of the police or government officials being evil is a common theme in Bollywood pictures and the audience, most likely, just too this portion of the story in stride. The overall film is quite good...like a variation on the excellent old Hollywood film "The Narrow Margin". My only complaints, and they are quite few, are the one baddie, played by Ajay Devgn, is both way too cool to be realistic as well as way too indestructible. Again and again, dozens of bullets fly at him but never hit him---and this is a bit ridiculous. But this also did make for some neat (but dumb) stunts. Well worth seeing and I especially liked seeing Bachchan's character being not so perfect in this one...an older man who isn't supposed to be in his prime.Oh, and incidentally, Bachchan's real-life daughter-in-law to-be, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, as well as Askay Kumar co-star in this film- -giving it a rather impressive cast.
I love Rajkumar Santoshi's Andaz Apna Apna - it is my favorite comedy. But I have not found a lot to like in what I saw of Hall Bol and all of Legend of Bhagat Singh. I finally saw Khakee and found it quite riveting. It was a taut action packed thriller, smart, and with a couple of decent twists - kind of what RACE might have wanted to be. But as it lacked cheapness - be it in the innuendo or the slutty female quotient, I found much to like here. In fact the film boasted of a fine performance from Amitabh, Akki was decent, Ajay was very good - after a long time I saw him in a convincing role that he played extremely well. Aish was OK - a bit weak IMO, except in the last 5 or so minutes. I think she could not decide how to act in the film - the innocent or the siren. Tusshar was OK, the rest of the supporting cast was excellent including Atul Kulkarni, Tanuja and Jaya Prada. The film did not need any songs at all. Mind you I did not mind the relief they provided from the tension that was escalating in the film, but they were NOT needed and were not that great.Yes it was the same old story of corruption at the highest levels, but it was revealed slowly and the film did not beat it to death. The atmosphere or danger and menace was well developed and the action sequences were quite realistic.
Rajkumar Santoshi has an enviable portfolio with Ghayal, Damini, Andaz Apna Apna, China Gate, Ghatak, China Gate, Pukaar and Bhagat Singh. All his serious movies have intense moments, great dailogues and a great storyline. With Amitabh as the principal actor in this venture - audience were expecting Santoshi to pull up a fantastic feat. So what went wrong then? For starters, the length of the movie and then the sub-plots. The movie is loaded with twists. Count the number of them listed below:***** SPOILERS *******Atul Kulkarni not being a terrorist - Twist!Akshay Kumar change of heart to support a good mission - Twist!Ajay Devgan being an ex-cop - Twist! The CM being corrupt - Twist! The Commissioner being corrupt - Twist! The death of Atul Kulkarni - Twist!Change of heart by the officer-in-charge in Police Station - Twist!Deciphering the post box number where the important documents are stored - Twist!Aishwarya on the bad side - Twist!Tusshar finishing the evil for good - Twist, and the only acceptable one!Couldn't any of the regular baddie enacted the role of Aangre? Where was the value-addition of having Ajay Devgan? The story has its own doses of loopholes as well. Writer Shridhar Raghavan needed a proper reality check. Songs were not required neither the romantic track. This movie was projected as Zanjeer Part Two and had all of potential with story something like Amitabh falsely accused of letting the terrorist escape and the rest of the movie is how Amitabh comes out clean chit.Anyone who appears in the frame have been provided adequate scope to perform and have given their best - the director should be lauded in this respect. With given resources, a better product could have been churned out.
