I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

This is a film that might have worked had it been a 10 or 20 minute short. In addition, the film did have a few pleasant or funny moments...but nearly enough to fill 83 minutes. So, instead of being funny or interesting, the overall package is just kind of stupid...and drags for what seems like forever.A rich Jewish tycoon (Richard Benjamin) owns a rap label whose music is on the edge of good taste and an opportunistic Senator takes advantage of this and persecutes him to garner favor with the voters. This idea was very interesting and timely....back in 1985 when Al Gore's wife championed the cause and pushed for Congressional hearings about all the smut in the music industry. Now in the much more permissive 21st century, the main story idea just seems passé--and about 15 years too late.Lisa Kudrow plays Benjamin's daughter. When he suffers a heart attack as a result of the hubbub over the record company, Kudrow tries to do damage control to soften the image of the worst of their rappers, Dr. S (Damon Wayans). And, in this bizarre melding of the worlds of a Jewish American Princess and a Hard-core rapper, the two somehow find love--though who knows why?!Frankly this takes the "fish out of water" concept too far. Part of the problem is that the Black rappers, despite often saying "make it real" seem like a caricature of the hip-hop culture. They are walking stereotypes--horny men who have a thing for White women. And the White women are all repressed and would die if they could only have a Black love machine! None of this and the White community's reaction to them makes sense or seems realistic in the least--and looks really lame by the time the picture is complete--and quite offensive. It's sad, as there were a few good moments and the basic idea wasn't that bad. Kudrow's first rap song is totally stupid because it came too easy, but the words were cute and I liked it. Also, I loved Wayans' song at the MTV Music Awards show--it was great for shock value. But apart from that, the entire film was a long-winded and ridiculous mess--amazingly uneven, crude (but not usually in a funny way) and broad--very, very broad in its humor--such as the clichéd son of the uptight Senator--he, of course, is gay. Why? Well, because this is what cheap and broad writing requires--not a real honest-to-goodness character--just caricatures. The actors seem to try hard but given the material, it's no wonder the film bombed---though I think it's current ranking of #97 on IMDb's Bottom 100 List seems a bit overboard--it's not THAT bad....but it's bad...there's no denying that. In particular, the last 15 minutes of the film are horribly unfunny and stupid...and, believe it or not, a bit of a ripoff of "Animal House" with it's little unfunny epilogue. Painful to sit through--it's amazing that a man like Richard Benjamin could have directed and starred in this dreck. As for Kudrow and Wayans, they are in their element.

That was my question after seeing like 20 minutes of Marci X.I don'tknow what you Americans are thinking, but if this is a portray of your mainstream pop culture, you are really f*cked up. I don't have anything against you people, but PLEASE!, stop bombarding us with these God-awful stinkers such as: Date Movie, Soul Plane, Adam Sandler's romantic "comedies",From Justin to Kelly and so on.What can I say about Marci x that hasn't been stated. Well, it disgusted me. It disgusted me the way in which people are stereotyped (white, black, latinos). C'mon, not every black people in U.S.A is a rapper or a criminal and not every white people is wealthy and conservative. The comedy in this film also disgusted me: not a single funny part!. This is way too much, taking into account that Damon Wayans has proved himself to be a good comedian. On the other hand, Phoebe stinks as usual. To sum up, Marci X is a disgusting Hollywood piece of s*it, which creates a racist decadent good-for-nothing version of American pop culture.Yo! American people,if you keep doing movies like Marci x, the world would find it easier to keep hating you.

Sitting around on a very slow Thursday evening and I didn't have anything better to do so I watched this with my wife.I'm certainly not going to watch it again, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There are some funny scenes, and the interaction between Wayans and Kudrow isn't always strained, although there are some scenes that looked like they both wanted to run away and hide from the script.Filled the time better than having a root canal surgery, that's for sure.Plot is thin to say the least, and except for about ten funny minutes, it did not really grab my attention. But, if your choice is root canal or Marci X, I'd go with Marci X, at least as long as it's on cable, and no rental fee is involved.
