Gathering up some Christmas themed titles to watch,I stumbled upon an X-Mas themed film that my dad had recently picked. With being keen to kick off the holiday season,I decided that it would be the perfect time to see Santa commit some deadly sledging. The plot:1000 years ago:Witnessing the local town being completely destroyed,an angel decides to place a bet against the son of Satan (called Santa) over a sporting contest, where if he wins,Santa must stop making the 25th of December a day of terror, and instead make it a day of joy for the next 1000 years.Being a betting man,Santa accepts the wager.Catching him completely off-guard,Santa is given the shock of his life, when the angel beats him!,which leads to Christmas Day becoming a day of joy for the next 1000 years.1000 years later:The present: Christmas Eve-Hell's Town.Getting dropped off by his girlfriend Mary"Mac" Mackenzie to his uncle's house,Nicolas Yuleson gets prepared to spend another dull, and present- free Christmas with his uncle.Hearing loud noises come from his attic,Nicolas discovers that his uncle is building strange looking machines, for what he claims will be a day of terror.Initially thinking that his uncle has truly lost it,Yuleson soon discovers to his horror, that this year,Santa coming to town, will leave to him bringing a deadly slaying with him.View on the film:Despite relying a bit too heavily on having some old people swear in order to give the movie some cheap laughs, debut writer/director David Steinman (who spent 5 years trying to get the movie made!) keeps his blood splattered sleigh moving at a lightning fast pace, thanks to carefully balancing a joyful mix of smooth sentimentality, quick'n deadly Horror Comedy, and a wonderfully dark X-Mas Fantasy element.Creating a chilly Christmas atmosphere by covering the movie in bloody red and icy breath,Steinman also shows an eye for style by brilliantly using stop-motion animation to show how Santa got force to change the day of terror, into a day of joy.Giving Santa a murderous mouthful of "Bar-humbugs" Bill Goldberg gives a wicked performance as a less then jolly St Nick, with Goldberg delivery each of the black hearted punch lines with a real relish, and also hitting the blood dripping Horror scenes with a real force,as Goldberg reveals this Santa to be one who you will never want to send a letter to.
This as to one of the most funniest horror comedy movies, I have seen in a long time. Dinner scene at the start, Was a pure classic, I thought it was really funny and with somd very funny deaths. (Who ever thought of Goldberg from WWE as a Evil Santa), he was great to watch. The whole movie was just silly however it was the good kinda of silly, Which made it really fun to watch. The acting was decent for this B-movies. I also actually liked some of the songs that madee, Some of them are very Catchy.7 out of 10, Really Funny.
"Santa's Slay" is a riotous seasonal body count flick, and is good fun for people who love lots of dark comedy and don't mind a serving of tastelessness. It seems that Santa Claus (wrestling star Bill Goldberg) is actually the son of Satan (we all knew the similarities in names couldn't be coincidental!) and has only been dispensing gifts to children worldwide because he lost a bet with an angel. Well, the 1,000 years he's had to do this are now over and he is MAD. He's going to do some serious damage in a small town appropriately named Hell."Santa's Slay" opens with such a surprising, hilarious opening sequence that nothing can top it, and nothing really does, although writer / director David Steiman and crew make this such a lively affair that it's still impossible not to like. Goldberg is undeniably perfectly cast considering the vision that this movie has of Saint Nick. He's rough, tough, and ripped, and his awesome sleigh is pulled by a buffalo. The other cast members also really get into the spirit of this thing, with Douglas Smith as the young man who learns some surprising things about his nutty old grandfather (Robert Culp, who's a delight), who's got all the inside dirt on Santa. Lovely, engaging Emilie de Ravin plays Smiths' would-be girlfriend, Dave Thomas is in fine form as the sleazy, horny pastor, and Saul Rubinek is endearing as deli owner Mr. Green. The cameos in that aforementioned opening scene are likewise quite enjoyable. While the movie does have a nice over the top sensibility, it might not be gory enough to suit the tastes of some horror fans. In addition, it doesn't end in a particularly satisfying manner. Still, it does deliver a decent amount of laughs and at 78 minutes it doesn't run any longer than it really should.Filmed in and around Edmonton, Canada.Seven out of 10.
Okay I will try not to compare this to superior Finnish film Rare Exports but it is impossible, unlike Rare Exports this has to make Halloween-remake-style-blood-and-gore-makes-most-of-the-movie style throughout. The plot, Santa is really the Devil's son and he lost a bet with an Angel a thousand years ago in return Santa will bring gifts to kids for a thousand years - when those years are up - he then starts to massacre random people. Is THIS all the people can come up with?!?!?!?!I will have reasons for why Rare Exports is FAR SUPERIOR, first off they made the mythology of Santa and changed it a little bit and turned him into a psycho that way, this however has "blood blood, blood and more blood" to make it's point of comedy.I think this would be a contender for a "worst Christmas movie ever" but it's #2 on my list of worst Christmas movies #1 is Santa Claus Conquers The Martians (yes I'm comparing).Everything this does wrong Rare Exports does right - watch that instead
