Absolutely Brilliant!
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Ferocious Planet is pretty bad but I watched it anyway. The clichés abound but the technical issues dominate the film. If you are going to make a movie in Ireland, then why does it have to be set in the USA and the Senator be a jackass? "I have a device smaller than a suitcase which can produce unlimited free power for nothing, but I need 250 million in funding". Please, 250 million, billion, trillion? That alone is priceless, but the side effect is the ability to view parallel universes. Sigh... The men are dumb jocks and the women all have "Dr." first in their names. But, they do wear skirts, blouses and dressy shoes to flail around in. Oh, did I mention curly hair? RawR! I warned you !
This film is just like the low budget science fiction horror films I watched as a kid, in the 1960's.Cliché characters are whisked to another dimension, where they must figure out how to get back. Monsters gore people. Hot heroine holds hands with Marine. Group members struggle against inner demons, fail, and get taken out by the real demons.I wish I could still take enough of the hallucinogenic drugs one needs to really enjoy a film like this. One thing this film does well is science. There is little science,so it isn't wrong. The technology is simple enough to be believable. Best of all, they don't use Microsoft Bing to solve their way back to the original dimension.
I feel almost too embarrassed to admit that I even watched this film. I suppose it's being a sucker for sci-fi that lead me into wasting 95 minutes of my life. Seeing John Rhys-Davies name in credits also lead me astray.I can only assume this actor agreed to appear before reading the script. His early demise must have come as welcome relief from such torment.I think the actors also realised quite early on in the proceedings that they were performing in a true turkey and started to ham it a little because it got humorous and I feel certain that was not the director's intention. What more can I say.The story? A device about as big as a medium sized suitcase, that does not require electricity because it runs on power generated by cold fusion is being tested in front of a number of dignitaries. It is claimed that when in operation the device can look in on parallel universes. What happens next is ..... but why should I spoil your enjoyment.
This is a probably one of the worst films I've ever watched. For a long time I thought it was meant to be a parody (and I still believe in the option), but if so, also limping. Is this a low, low, low budget film...? Pace, plot, dramaturgy, allegedly special effects (the animated monsters are hilariously bad), acting, music, not to speak of content or idea — all of it is terrible. It is not even entertaining, despite its abundance of indeliberate humor. It only reminds me how much time there is generally spent in vain in the movie business, producing nothingness. The acting resembles an unsuccessful early cartoon, where anything like timing is nearly absent. As usual in American films, there are the compulsory ingredients of yelling-women-for-no-reason without having their coiffure disturbed, but here the illusion of resolve or courage or readiness to act or something along those protocols does not function — or become manifest. Conclusion: «Ferocious Planet» is a dreadful production. A disgrace for the screen — simply something for the dustbin. It is almost impossible to imagine that someone expects an audience to take something like this seriously in 2011. Or hold on: It might serve as an item for the film academies, splendidly exemplifying what to avoid. Hence, for the sake of pedagogy, not a complete waste after all.
