The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human
September. 03,1999 RDavid Hyde Pierce, playing an alien (credited as infinity-cubed in the opening credits), narrates a courtship in a late-20th century American city as an extraterrestrial nature documentary. The relationship "footage" is played straight, while the voice-over (with its most often wildly inaccurate theories) and elaborate visual metaphors add comedy.

Very Cool!!!
So much average
Highly Overrated But Still Good
Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
The first true mockumentary I have ever seen and truly a must see for all sci fi fans! Genuinely funny, witty, light with several non too explicit sex scenes. Plus (a couple of) nude scenes for Carmen Electra. This film depicts the continuation of the human species through an alien point of view and is, in it's own way, pure genius. Aliens have made a somewhat National Discovery-like documentary about our race and how we perform all sorts of rituals, from picking up a female to conception and birth. These include several assumptions, observations and overall misinterpretations of what exactly is going on as your average documentary has. The screen play has several "re-recurring" links throughout the movie to keep experienced viewers interested but does not quite go "in depth" plot and character development-wise. Overall, well suited for a generally pleasant, non-too complex movie, in my humble opinion.
I recently watched this film during the wee hours in the morning off TV and found it an excellent excuse not to go to bed. The film used the format of a '50s nature show to spoof the modern day relationship. It is not the most sophisticated film ever, but I think it makes its point. David Hyde Pierce is quite effective as the alien narrator, using his frank, matter-of-fact tone that is similar to that of his character on Frasier. The basic and almost elemental terms/phrases he uses to describe everyday items makes me think not only about what we, as humans, get wrong when we observe other animals, but also about the truly absurd things we do/own. It is true that the acting of those on-screen is not up to "awards" standards, Mackenzie Astin and Carmen Electra fill their stereotypical roles well. Don't go into watch this movie expecting everything, because you won't get it. But if you're looking for a little bit of fun to waste some time, give it a try. I give this film a rating of 3/5.
I found this film fascinating and very well done. The interest does not flag from beginning to end and the concept is so very true. In my 80 years I have seen this happen so often both with young people and old. I wish I were young again.
I came across this movie by accident, flipping through my cable-channels. To my surprise I found it very good! This is a relaxing movie that makes you smile. It makes you comfortable. The movie is really a classic one: Boy meets girl, falls in love with all the complications that follows...The narrating is excellent with all the missunderstandings of things you take for granted. People are not logic ;)
