a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

The most artsy film I watched, I enjoyed it to bits. Has a story and a beauty you will not find in hollywood production. I would give it above 10 rating if it was a thing.

A wonderful little film that works on many levels: 1. A mix of live action and animation which instantly puts it in rarified space. Very few films like this have ever been attempted.2. A Python-esque story coming from ... France? The Brits would be horrified. And it works well.3. Has the intense dialog and blown-up social comedy that Euro films are known for. That works too.4. Story is clever, the protagonist has trouble distinguishing between reality and sleep -- a condition, his mother says, he has had since a child. Also works well.5. Casting is fascinating. The guy played by Gael García Bernal is an Alain Delon look-a-like and everyone in the story knows it. Looking great (in film and I think real life) gives him the right to do outrageous things and get forgiven. But the love interest in this quirky (and fun) rom-com arc is played by Charlotte Gainsbourg who is appealing and simpatico but not conventionally beautiful. Again, this works well.6. Of course -- you knew this! -- the writer and director are one and the same, Highly creative films like this always are the work of a single creative mind.A lost gem.

After the death of his father in Mexico, Stephane a young creative man who confuses reality and dream, back to Paris for his mother's request. There he found a boring and not creative job from Illustrator into a small business promotional calendars and a nice neighbour, Stephanie. He falls in love with her, in a dream and awake builds for her mechanical puppets or improbable machines of the time. But in love, dream and reality not coincide almost ever. The movie talks about how the border between dream and reality is really thin. Among funny moments, in fact I laughed so much, there is also a deep meaning. The protagonist played that role really good. The screenplay is very original and I personally love it! Very interesting the choice to use three languages during the whole movie I really enjoyed that. In the movie there are brilliant ideas as the time machine. I really liked when Stephan said: "I'm exhausted, I'm going to wake up now." This sentence makes us understand how the protagonist was really between dream and reality. I found some sections exaggerated but that's the beauty of the movie that makes me feel comfortable because everyone has a bit of madness and fantasy in our head and this film brings the extreme our imagination, and this made me really comfortable. The movie is generated by the smart mind of Michel Gondry, also creator of the brilliant Eternal Sunshine, another movie that I love!
