Just perfect...
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
I remember seeing this movie in İstanbul and crying my eyes out of their balls since I was in great despair to be away from my family who lived in Ankara. Though a bit ordinary, I really like the story and how it was processed. It is true that there some logical errors but I could not help but getting lost in the story and realizing these errors after the movie. Mehmet Günsür is irrefutably a very good actor, or let's say, he has become one recently. However, I strongly detest Berçim Erdoğan's acting. Not only in this movie! In short, it is a very good Ankara movie which is capable of touching the hearts of people who spent time in Ankara in the 90s.
I have made this account a few minutes ago...I thought I have so much to say about the story of this movie, about my review here...But now I find myself speechless... And I must specify,I'm not a great fan of love movies.Plus,I was against movies in other languages but English.I have decided this evening to try it anyway. But this one...the most beautiful film I have ever seen! It made me wonder if such coincidences happened in my life or in the life of my friends,family...I was planning to watch another movie after this one,but I don't wanna do it anymore.I want to go to sleep with these feelings, with this story in my head. I'm not so easy to impress generally, specially about love movies and dramas. Well, this one got me!
I watched the movie "Ask Tesadüfleri Sever" - "Love Likes Coincidences" tonight the 11th of February 2011, and loved it by all means... In a movie, if you don't believe in a few coincidences, it is one thing, but in this movie, the story telling is a musical coincidences symphony in which two parallel lives, a love and the people circling around are successfully portrayed.Ömer Faruk Sorak is a powerful director who makes the spectator find a place for him/herself a place in the story. He just finds the tempo and lets the river flow... Mehmet Günsür & Belçim Bilgin as the two main characters just fit in too... Especially Mehmet Günsür with his performance and charisma gives the movie the energy it needs. I'd like to congratulate Gökçe Doruk Erten as the director of casting too.. Since the movie covers a story of two people from their ages 7-10 up to end of 20's it is actually difficult to cast a continuum and that was done superb. In many successful American movies you sometimes get shocked by the casting of characters by different actors in such a long and evoluting piece of time. Also an Oscar goes to Ipek Sorak who has created a perfect symphony of coincidences that lead to a touching love with her concept & story. Thanks for all the efforts, I can say "Ask Tesadüfleri Sever" is the best Turkish movie I've watched for the last few years.
I saw this movie yesterday in London. The main pleasure I took from it was to see that Mehmet Günsür has become a very good actor.I have seen him last time in an Ozpetek's movie called "Hamam-The Turkish bath" in 1997, he was very young at that time, but I remember he showed a very good performance even there in a supporter role (Alessandro Gassman was the lead character).Going back to Ask Tesadufleri Sever, the translation of the title in English should be "Love likes coincidences" and I must say the writers went a little bit too far with the coincidences stuff making the plot too unrealistic and sometimes ridicule. And that is a shame because the good acting (Günsür, Yigit Özsener and the actress who plays Günsür mother) and the beautiful locations of both Ankara and Istanbul could make this movie a little pearl to compete with international titles.Worthy to be watched for the good acting and for Ankara's and Istanbul's views, but be prepared to the disappointing and sometime painful script.
