Bob McGraw is in his 12th year of college, goofing his way through life. Bob, Irwing, Gonzer and Max are the four losers forced and bribed to represent their university in an intercollegiate raft race. Forced and bribed into this role, they make some friends, the lovely Heather Merriweather, but mostly enemies, among others a whole team of marines, and preppy IVY-leaguers determined to win.

Good start, but then it gets ruined
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
So many funny one liners and great characters. A blended cast of some side characters from Porky's and Animal House... I still love this movie more than any of them. Lots of funny moments and really good dialog amid the humor. Sure it is cheesy too... but that is the nature of an 80s comedy. This is one one of the few 80s comedies I never tire of and like to watch once a year or so. Some adult moments and mild nudity in spots, but otherwise really based more on funny situations than leaning on those aspects which were clearly in at the time. Great casting too, everyone fits their parts well.
What can I say?Good music. Cheesy acting. Silly script. This has to be one of the best Animal House Rip-Offs...and I don't mean that as an insult.Even by today's standards the movie has pretty good pacing and an awesome soundtrack. The movie has enough gags and comedy that will definitely not disappoint anyone who is a 80's movie junkie. As like other reviewers, I am just amazed more people don;t know about this film. Check out the YouTube video of Up the Creek by Cheap Trick to whet your appetite. What a great flick!
This movie is silly and campy and total '80s, but it's very entertaining and the soundtrack is completely amazing, featuring artists like Cheap Trick, Beach Boys and Ian Hunter among others. Like most campy '80s movies, this plot is predictable and the outcome is typical, but it's fun to watch the adventures of Bob McGraw and the gang. Tim Matheson plays a similar role to his Eric Straton character from Animal House. Ironically (and completely on purpose) the movie Van Wilder, featuring Ryan Reynolds, casts Tim Matheson as Van's uptight father. The irony is that Van Wilder is very similar to Bob McGraw from 20 years earlier. In Van Wilder, however, Matheson plays the exact opposite character.
Bob (Tim Matheson), Gonzer (Stephen Furst), Max (Dan Monahan) and Irwin (Sandy Helberg) are four total losers in college. Their dean (John Hillerman slumming) orders them to compete against other colleges in a white water raft race. Predictable shenanigans ensure. An "Animal House" clone but, FOR WHAT IT IS, not bad. There's plenty of buff, shirtless guys and girls in skimpy bikinis--or sometimes topless. There's some nice photography, a GREAT title tune and a likable cast. Matheson doesn't take the role (or film) seriously and is just great--laid-back and quite funny. Furst is just OK; Monahan is good but given nothing to do and Helberg gets annoying REAL quick. Jennifer Runyon pops up as the love interest and is good---very pretty and having fun with her role. This is a silly movie with a stupid plot and some REAL bad jokes (most involve a commando outfit trying to sabotage the race) but a likable cast and a few good jokes make this fun to watch in a turn-off-your-brain way. Slightly recommended.
