Such a frustrating disappointment
Absolutely Fantastic
Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

One of my favorite movies. After watching this magnificent film, I immediately went over to my friend's house just to show him the brilliance that is Chennai Express. I love how what could have been a very sad plot line of a man spreading his grandfather's ashes, was transformed into an entertaining, comedic, action-filled, love story. This movie has everything that a movie should have. Just when you are thinking that the movie is getting a bit slow, something drastic happens to re-engage you in the film. One of my favorite scenes is the final fight scene. I really enjoyed how there was tons of slow motion action that made the punches and kicks way more dramatic. In the final fight, Rahul defeats a ton of weaker guys in order to gain the ability to fight what I perceived to be the "final boss." This final fight is divided up into two different fights one before Rahul is knocked out and the one after he regains consciousness and begin to fight again with his second wind. His love for Meenamma is what pushes him through to eventually defeat Tangaballi and win Meenamma as his wife.
The idea of a silly Bollywood film such as a Chennai Express seems to the opposite of something I would enjoy watching. But when you have been viewing some very serious, and depressing films, the ridiculous film give a break and takes your perception out of the real world. It puts your mind into a state of happiness and laughter, even though you may have no idea what is going on. The film is really just a true love story, with a few different things. Rahul, who is the main character, isn't the first person you would imagine to fight for his love. When he does fight for his love, Meena, he does it in such a confusing way. He doesn't really actually fight for his love until the very end of the move. The rest of time he confuses or talks his way out the fight. And the way the film is edited, Rahul's voice speeds up when he is "fighting." It makes for a very entertaining film. The fact that Rahul is accidentally placed in a world controlled by Meena's father and the fact he has no idea what he is getting into all combined with Meena's seriousness, make for the perfect duo. You may not understand what the point of the film is at first, but the director eventually ties it all together. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a good laugh.
Chennai Express is a very interesting movie. It is very different than anything else I have ever seen before. This is probably one of my first movies from Bollywood, but I will not think of Bollywood as this type of movie entirely. Now, the movie started off very slowly, and I was pretty confused with what was going on and it was pretty corny. The whole movie is corny actually. A few things to complain about are how the big guy at the end just decides to give up the girl when he traveled very far just to find her. Even that Rahul had the smallest of chances in the fight, that is simply impossible. The movie then went off on the train, and I guess the title of the movie is the name of the train company, I think. Rahul boasts about Goa and then as soon as he sees a pretty girl he instantly starts to just think of her and doesn't get off at the correct train stop. I guess he was being a nice guy, but it seemed very corny. All of the explosions were very comedic, and everything else was just a little too much to really enjoy the movie. The first half of the movie was incredibly slow, but I would say. It started to pick up after that and was seeming like an actual movie again. Despite my claim earlier about the fight scene, I enjoyed seeing the ending. Yet, the father also has all of these problems with Rahul and then sees him as a man because he keeps getting up when he gets hit. Then Meena and Rahul go away happily ever after. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone, but definitely would check out other movies made in Bollywood.
