By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
This was honestly one of the best movies I've ever seen, to be honest. I both laughed and cried during the movie. The storyline was emotional - funny, sad, relatable and heart-wrenching at once. The storyline was very well acted out and the main characters did very well. I wasn't a big fan of Tyler Perry before but he did extremely well with this. The film leaves you on edge until the final scene and touches on a lot of everyday issues within relationships. It is definitely a sad movie but also a feel good film. I highly recommend this.
Wesley Deeds (Tyler Perry) seemingly has it all. He's the CEO of his Father's company. He has the perfect fiancée Natalie (Gabrielle Union) everything seems like paradise for Wesley. In reality, Wesley is bored, so is his fiancée, but neither one are willing to admit it to the other. Wesley is also dealing with his pretentious mother, and his alcoholic brother. Natalie wants Wesley to be more spontaneous and less predictable. Wesley meets a single mother named Lindsey (Thandie Newton) She just so happens to be a cleaning lady in his building. Wesley quickly learns that his lifestyle might not be all that gloriousThis is another underrated Perry film. It's funny how so many of his movies are in the 4.0 or 3.0 range. What do people have against him? I really don't understand it. Are you even watching the movies? Anyway, this movie works on a lot of levels. It has many different messages. I felt Perry did a really good job at exploring the issue that money doesn't buy happiness. Wesley Deeds has it all, and he's as unhappy as can be. Lindsey is broke, homeless, and has every reason in the world to give up, but she doesn't. It was a stark contrast in characters, and Perry did a terrific job of telling a great story. Many of us succumb to the pressures of what our parents wants. Often in life your parents want to live vicariously through their kids eyes, so they can relive things they didn't get done when they were younger. That's not the way to do things, and it's a mistake parents often make. Tyler Perry gives us the "insensitive" mother that he tends to do in a lot of his movies. It's a formula that works often, and it works again in this movie. Tyler Perry is rock solid as the lead. He conveys all the emotions perfectly, and I felt he was extremely sympathetic. Perry oozes charisma. I also liked that he delved deeper in what could have been a generic part. Tyler makes sure to make Wesley Deeds a very interesting character. I thought he was great. Thandie Newton is excellent as the struggling mother. It's impossible not to feel for her precarious predicament. Her chemistry with Perry was above average. Gabrielle Union does what she has to do well, which isn't much. Brian White is a great prick. He's done it before, and he did it again in this movie. His indignant character will annoy you heavily. Rebecca Romjin is barely in this movie. I suspect she was here, strictly for name value. Phylicia Rashad plays a pretentious witch, and does it well. You may recognize her from the Cosby show. If you're a bit of a romantic like I am, you'll most likely smile at the ending. When you fall on hard times, it seems like the world is against you. Relationships grow stale and predictable if you let them. Communication is very important. Perry's heart is apparent here, once more. This is a good movie. It's heartfelt, genuine, entertaining, and touching. I have no use for Tyler Perry haters. He doesn't always create winners, but he does make some quality films7.4/10
The character and life of Wesley Deeds was relateable in some ways and inspiring. Although Tyler Perry is highly recognized for his over the top comedic expression via Madea, his cross over into this melo-dramatic role suited the character in which he played. Having him fall for the janitor is not so far fetched. One part that i found to be unrealistic was his lack of knowledge and reference to 2Pac ("The rapper guy"). The portrayal of a struggling single mom who was a widow was far from the stereotypical baby mother -whereby the father ran off. Phylicia Rashad (mother to Wesley)played the mother role a little too well. I can see her being that way in real life. Gotta love Mrs. Huxtable ;)
Firstly the Title of the movie is "GOOD DEEDS" Wesley Deeds inherited company from his father after his death. Wesley Deeds CEO of the company, was portrayed in the beginning of this movie to be responsible, merciful, long-suffering, honorable, tenderhearted, and respectful (mind you these good qualities were instilled in him I would guest by his father). On the other hand, his brother Walter Deeds who envied Wesley Deeds, was portrayed to be irresponsible (to the point where he could not even keep a driver license), vengeful, dishonorable, unkind, unmerciful, and he always seemed angry. So called "Good Deeds" 1)After being insulted by Lindsey at the parking garage, after she occupying a parking space reserved for Wesley. Instead of letting her car be towed away, he gave her a break. In this same seen it showed deep character contrast between Wesley Deeds and his brother Walter Deeds. In that seen Walter Deeds cursed Lindsey, call tow truck to tow her vehicle away, when she plead for her vehicle to be released, he mocked her. 2)Wesley Deeds also work late nights as CEO making sure the Company stayed sound and competitive. 3)His fiancé trusted him so much she knew if he was not with her he was at work. 4)In another part of the movie Wesley Deed witness Child Services taking Lindsay's child away because she was living in her vehicle, due to an eviction. Wesley Deeds seeing this decided to let her stay in one of the Company Corporate apartment rent free with her child. Until she's able to be financially sound. There is more so called good deeds of Wesley Deeds throughout this movie. Not only that, he is always a good example to his brother(who is considered to be irresponsible), mother, and fiancé, up to the point nearing end of the movie. This where I found this movie to be very offensive. Too summarize it all: my dad sacrificed to help me be who i am right now, who i am right now; is showing forth that sacrifice. I come to a revelation. I do not want to sacrifice like my dad did for me, but I want to do my own thing. And put all my dad's labor and sacrifice in another man's hand. What a stupid concept to even ponder. Moreover, leave my beautiful trusting fiancé for another women who has insulted me from the very start of seeing her. Wow!Tyler Perry are you kidding me. Misguided and confusing nothing glorious about Mr. Evil Deeds actions.
