The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

I don't get the rating and some of the reviews on this. It's one of my favorite 'lite' movies. I think the casting is perfect, the acting is good - even some great - moments. In my humble opinion, Cara Pifko and Ennis Esmer delivered some great lines superbly. Cara's gorgeous and perky. Ennis is funny and self-deprecating. The writing and dialog are very good. And I think the main characters carry off their respective transformations very believably. Kevin Jubinville's performance is a bit stiff but then his character, Cliff, is a bit phony and stiff. The emotional balance of this movie is much less syrupy than a lot of hallmark types that rate much higher. Certainly well worth the price - I got it from Amazon for under $5. I loved it and highly recommend it as an under-rated gem with a simple message that a lot of people I know could stand to hear.

The only positives about this movie -- and they carry this hunk of junk for about five minutes -- are the good looks of the main characters. From minute six onward, you'll be numbed by the completely unoriginal, shamefully unimaginative script and the amateur, cardboard-like performances of most of the actors. (The only actor with any life to him was the guy who played the brother of the leading man.) The only reason I stayed with this tripe is because I love my wife, she has to see every movie to the end, and I knew it was less than 90 minutes. Here's the tired plot: Woman is engaged to guy who is clearly not for her and who keeps taking business calls while he's with her. At the same time, there's a widower firefighter who is having trouble coping with the recent loss of his wife. Woman meets him briefly at a bar, and they develop a rapport in about 15 seconds, but then they part. Guess who the woman is going to end up with? Well, we all know but, in case she couldn't figure it out, she accidentally sets her house on fire and the widower firefighter just happens to be walking by. Coincidence or fate? Are you riveted yet? The writer and director seem to strive to telegraph everything and eschew any level of subtlety. For example, the woman accidentally spills her drink on fireguy's shirt, and he shrugs it off. Then, about 10 minutes later, she spills a drink on fiancé's shirt and he moans about his expensive fabric being ruined. She couldn't have spilled it on his pants or his jacket? No, the director wants to make sure you understand this morality play of his -- one's cool about the shirt, one's not cool. Get it? Don't get it.

Terrific movie where we have a couple, both of whom can't stop working, planning for their marriage. She meets a fireman in a chance meeting and several weeks later, he saves her life in a house fire. With her life spared, she begins smelling the roses and she likes what she smells. She becomes committed to doing volunteer work and as a writer, she will write about the experiences of firemen.Love blossoms between her and the widowed firemen. I thought the ending was going to be the finale scene from "The Graduate" but we do not get that. Instead, we have a heart-warming tale of love and reshaping of one's priorities.

Mark Consuelos and Chandra West are likable actors. They have good chemistry between them, to the point that you are mentally pushing them to get together. And isn't that the point of a good romance? I happen to think that a lot of people (or critics - I've never looked at most critics as people) have a depraved need to accept only those "Romances" that bleed all over the screen and end in horror and unrequited love. In other words, they think that any romance which brings closeness and comfort is "predictable" and "sophomoric". Methinks their compensation for their own failures at love becomes a stumblingblock to their fairness and critical faculties. That said, this is a fun little movie about people you could enjoy being with. It doesn't strive for artistic greatness, and the writing is predictable but not heavy-handed. A firefighter is having trouble adjusting to the death of his wife. A writer goes through a dry spell and then is in a fire. They meet and are compelled to adjust their thinking about their lives. Corbin Bernsen does his usual great job as the Fire Chief. The ending is happy. I liked it. So sue me!
