It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

It's been 17 years since Oscar Madison (Walter Matthau) and Felix Unger (Jack Lemmon) have seen each another. Oscar is still a slob sportswriter in Sarasota, Florida. Felix is a still neurotic mess after three divorces. One day, Oscar's son Brucey calls to tell him that he's marrying Felix's daughter Hannah. Oscar and Felix reunite at LAX and take a road trip to the wedding in San Malina.After the success of the 'Grumpy Old Men' movies, it was inevitable that Matthau and Lemmon would revisit these famous characters. It's also very heartening to have Neil Simon back as the writer. The old team is back but they do not age well. My first problem is that in this movie universe, the duo has become separated for 17 years. It's a sad way to start the movie and it's so unnecessary. The movie is relying on the weakest of premise. It seems to go down some comedic avenues but the movie pulls back at each section before it gets truly funny. They're not taking enough risks and relies too much on the odd couple's chemistry.

I was a big fan of odd couple TV series and movies.I would like to see a movie remake and I have the perfect stars.They both would be a perfect fit and both have movie experience.The perfect actors to do a movie remake Terry Bradshaw as Oscar Madison and Howie Long as Felix Unger.I wish somebody could come up and get them to make it happen.Oscar Madison was a sports writer Terry Bradshaw is a sports analyzer and Howie Long would be great Felix.With their current jobs I don't think they would want to do a TV series even though they would be perfect for that also they would have plenty of time during an off season to do a movie.I would love to see it happen.I'm also a big Terry Bradshaw AND Howie Long fan.

The Odd Couple II (1998) ** 1/2 (out of 4) Thirty (!!!) years after the original film, Felix (Jack Lemmon) and Oscar (Walter Matthau) find themselves thrown back together as they must take a road trip to their children's wedding. THE ODD COUPLE II should have been called GRUMPIEST OLD MEN because it has much more in common with GRUMPY OLD MEN than it does the original 1968 film. In fact, as a sequel this movie is quite bad because it's really not the same characters as before and the entire mood is different but if you go into this expecting another dirty-talking old man movie then you should at least get enough laughs to make it worth sitting through. Once again all the magic is due to Lemmon and Matthau who still have that wonderful chemistry together. The two of them were certainly among the greatest comedy actors out there and when they're together they're even more special. The screenplay here really just puts them in one comedic situation after another and I'll admit that none of it is all that original. There's even a rather lazy sequence in a small town where the two just keep getting arrested over and over. I don't think this happens because of great writing but instead because they needed to pump out the running time so they just kept repeating the same type of joke. The film starts off as a road picture and I think these sequences get the biggest laughs as it relates most to the original film as Oscar has to put up with the various annoying things that Felix does. The film certainly has some major problems including the screenplay that just doesn't do much and instead just has a bunch of cussing and fighting between the two men. Yes, at times it's funny but by 1998 we had already seen it in the two GRUMPY OLD MEN films as well as OUT TO SEA. Still, if you're a fan of the two legends then there's no question you'll still want to check this out even if it falls short of their best films.

Oscar Madison (Walter Matthau) and Felix Ungar (Jack Lemmon) are reunited 30 years after the classic Original....Oscar is still a Grumpy,Gambling Grouch....and Felix is still a fusspot allergic to everything - and both are reunited as they attempt to get to their Daughter and son's Wedding - but keep getting thwarted time after time by exploding rental cars, an elderly Car driver who dies on them, Redneck Husbands who end up kidnapping them and they end up getting arrested by the same despairing officer.The Odd Couple 2 was the 10th and Sadly LAST Film to star both Matthau and Lemmon and was a Financial disappointment (It made less than $19M in it's entire U.S Theatrical run) and has been regarded as a mistake by many Critics (Professional and on IMDb)Admittedly It doesn't reach the heights of the Original - But to be honest I can't see many people really expecting it to do so.The Writing (again by Neil Simon) is Very Good and Matthau has loads of great one-liners sprinkled throughout delivered with his classic dead-pan charm, and both Matthau and Lemmon seem to be enjoying themselves.. Matthau was 77 & Lemon 72 at the time of Filming - so I guess This Movie was a 'Now or Never' project for them.I won't say this was the BEST Movie I've ever seen, but it is a very enjoyable and pleasant movie to watch and it's great to see both stars, who are both no longer with us.Sadly Matthau died two years later at the age of 79 and Lemmon died barely a year after Matthau at the age of 76.***1/2 out of *****
