A lot of fun.
I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
It's like reading a visual review of Fellini's 'eight and a half'.Even with the gorgeous singing and dancing and the solid performance of the actors, all of these resources have become a part of the sermon. Not to mention the old hollywood-style platitudes that pervaded its core.At the technical level, the combination of separate pieces makes no sense at all, so it is not surprising that mechanized pseudo-healing is the result.
Famous film director Guido Contini struggles to find harmony in his professional and personal lives, as he engages in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and his mother. Nine is one of those films where the Cast is great but the final result is not Daniel Day-Lewis seems like he is bored, Marion Cotillard and Penélope Cruz feel out of place, Kate Hudson comes out of nowhere, Fergie, Sophia Loren and Judi Dench have some good overall moments and Nicole Kidman could have been better. The whole musical stuff come out in places where the film doesn't really need any singing plus it's very very thin and complexed at times and it is pretty slow if you ask me. Good Cast and Director but that doesn't say much now does it? [3/10]
I personally am a big fan of this movie. I think people were expecting to be fun, joyful, and upbeat like Chicago, or other movie musicals in the past. "Nine" is a more serious musical, and I think once people grasp that, they'll be able to enjoy the movie more. Now, there were a few things I would have changed...I would've extended Kate Hudson, Sophia Loren, & Nicole Kidman's parts. I felt they could've been utilized more throughout the story. Such as, when Claudia's agent calls Guido...it could have been Claudia calling Guido herself. There should have been a scene where Guido and Sophia Loren have a long talk...much like Guido and Lilli's conversations. And I don't know how Kate Hudson could have been used more, but I felt like I barely knew her before she started singing "Cinema Italiano". She did great with the amount of time she had, though!!On the plus side, I thought Marion Cotillard gave a wonderful performance! Everybody did a great job, but, her and Nicole Kidman's performances really stood out to me. You can tell everybody gave it their all for this movie and they had a lot of fun doing it. You can tell that by the special features as well as the movie itself! It's not as amazing as Chicago, but it's great in a different way.
Film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) is starting a new movie in 10 days and he hasn't written a single word yet. He doesn't know if he still has the touch after 2 consecutive flops. All that is sure is that the new movie is to be called Italia and stars his muse Claudia (Nicole Kidman). The story isn't very appealing. It's just so much doubt and mid-life crisis from Guido. The songs are, to be kind, weak cabaret Broadway caliber. Penélope Cruz does a super sexy dance. Daniel Day-Lewis isn't completely horrible. Kate Hudson has the most fun and energetic. And Marion Cotillard gets very emotional. Besides a few sexy dance moves, the songs and dances are mostly forgettable. And there is something very static about having all those performances on the same stage. There are some hot babes, but the movie isn't so hot.
