Crappy film
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
Excellence film! I was blown away by Jonathan Rhys Meyers' outstanding acting in this film. It kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish and would recommend to anyone who enjoys a psychological thriller. I'd give it a 10/10, personally!
Pros- -casting is good -powerful performance by johnathan rhys Meyers, didn't know he was that capable. - as usual good performance by Julianne mooreCons - disappointing story ...initial buildup of story line is like a psychological thriller a good one that will keep you curious and backed by such a cast , viewers wait for more of that thrill but instead story line deviates to a predictable plot. It feels injustice with good performances by actors.U can watch this movie as how good performances can be wasted.
From the beginning, this movie can't decide what it is. A psychological thriller? A supernatural horror movie? Something else? I have no problem with a film that spans genres, or ever creates a new genre, but this film seems to fall into a narrow crack between genres. The story seems to be a hodgepodge of elements of other movies, including Soultaker (1990), The Green Mile (1999), and Fallen (1998). At just about every critical point in the film, my wife and/or I could predict the next event, or at least narrow it down to two possibilities. Very few surprises or original ideas.Julianne Moore's acting is palatable if not inspiring. Jonathan Rhys Meyers' acting is forced and cliché' and he comes across as a budget Jim Caviezel or an improved Eric Roberts. Also, so the movie makes a few references to "Night of the Living Dead," thus violating MST3K's Tom Servo's precept "Man, never show a good movie in the middle of your crappy movie." If it weren't so well filmed, with some great shots and scenery, I would have given this movie one star.
This is your typical ghost thriller. People start dying under strange circumstances, there is a main character who is somehow caught in the middle of this, obviously a woman, has a little child, who is also female, as well as other family connections and she is as representative as they could make her: Christian, middle class, white. However there are several problems that go beyond merely cliché. First of all there is the length, two full hours. Then there is the complete and utter lack of character development. Everyone, and I actually mean everyone, including the main character, are cardboard versions of human beings, robbed of any chance of turning into something else. Worse, as cardboard as they are, they are barely sketched. So that leaves the story: is it thrilling, scary or both? It is none of the above. It is slightly mysterious, I give it that, and the reason for it is that the writing is too confused to teach the viewer anything or let him at least understand what the hell is going on.The ending is the worst part, though, coming immediately after the "reveal", solving nothing and providing only the mandatory opportunity for a sequel. I have no idea why I got this film to watch in the first place, but I strongly recommend to not do the same.
