Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
The first must-see film of the year.
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
The acting in this movie is really good.
Fantastic family friendly movie about perseverance and heart. Based on a true story about immigrant high school kids that form a robotics club in an attempt to get a leg up on their next journey in life. They face many obstacles: family, money, no papers, bad attitudes; but they have heart, will, & determination in spades! Lovely movie worth a rental. Fun for the whole family.
This was a great movie me and the family really enjoyed it great family movie, I recommend this to all.Very inspirational love these kinds of movies that just show you and your kids anything can be possible with a little determination. Not trying to give anything away in the movie not saying they won anything or any outcome more just the great determination and never giving up, that's all its about really. Was in a rush writing this did my best explaining in the few minutes I had, its a great watch hope it inspires somebody have told a lot of friends and family about this one will be watching it again when some family comes to visit...
I found the rating of this movie to be over reaching. While the cast was an interesting blend, I just didn't feel much of the characters fit. Lopez didn't feel like he connected at all, and many of the scenes were very forced. I really appreciate that this is a true story, but I felt the acting (or maybe the directing) was just off point. the 5 stars are simply for the story told.I will say Esai Morales, José Julián, and Marisa Tomei did a pretty good job for their roles, they felt believable. I was surprised that Jamie Lee Curtis went for the role she did, while it was completely believable, there were some parts that had me going "really? ...why would she do that?" Carlos PenaVega was believable but the acting fell short in many cases, again forced emotions and sloppy writing for certain situations. Young actors are often caught posing and much like project almanac, often blank or shy smiling in moments that don't call for it.
I am so happy there are no negative reviews for this film. Really tight directing. Not being sappy but still emotional. Underdog theme but no bullshitting around. People getting to do the job with all their differences. And some great honest jokes. Great acting. Marisa and Jamie-Lee are always awesome and real. Perfect for this film. Do not know much of Sean's directing work, but if this is his style, keep it up. Fantastic job all around for what could have been melodramatic bullshit fluff. Awesome film for the genre.
