As Good As It Gets
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
I loved the acting by Jackson and Levy, really funny, I little bit like "Starsky & Hutch" movie style. I don't know what is the problem with some people, this is a very nice comedy with great acting. 80 minutes of real fun! Incredible acting by Eugene Levy and Samuel Jacson Nothing more to say but again I don't understand the critics I loved the acting by Jackson and Levy, really funny, I little bit like "Starsky & Hutch" movie style. It's not often that I thoroughly enjoy a humorous crime caper, but this film had me tickled and entertained! The chemistry between Levy and Jackson was spot on! And how refreshing it is to see Jackson in a comedy. I am sure he enjoyed working with Levy, too. Jackson plays a tough, cynical cop who learns from Levy's character how to prioritize his values in life. My hat's off to Levy for his performance as a naive, hard-working, proper family man who in turn learns from Jackson's character how to be more street wise. Fans of Jackson will be pleased with his performance as will fans of Levy. The storyline is tremendous and cleverly developed. You will NOT be disappointed if you like comedic action films which supply the viewer with twists and turns in the plot, and two complete opposites who surprisingly develop a friendship. Sensational flick, I say!
Arguably a tad better than the similar PURE LUCK, THE MAN features Sam Jackson as an federal agent who somehow ends up playing nursemaid to salesman Eugene Levy, as they pursue the bad guys who have killed Jackson's partner. This one is a real groaner, with Levy playing the bespectacled fish out of water to Jackson's perpetually scowling lawman. A lot of time is spent in Jackson's car. A lot of time. I have to admit I could not sit through this one to the end, but then who could? Levy is mildly funny, but a little of him goes a long way, as he has proved in everyone of his movies. Jackson is picking up a paycheck, pure and simple. Skip THE MAN.
The Man (2005, Les Mayfield) A federal agent turns up dead and an hardcore undercover agent, known as Derrick Vann heads off to try and recover the stolen arms and find the killers. Andy Fiddler is an ordinary family man and a dentist, and is out heading to a conference, when he gets stuck in the same mess. Criminal Kane believes Fiddler is 'The Man' behind it all and offers him a gun. Vann spots him and drags him across town, with him posing as the actual 'Man'.When you first look at this film, you see an odd pairing. Eugune Levy is often a comedic actor and Samuel L. Jackson is more of a serious, hard-hitting actor. It was a risky move to make. The actors aren't the problem, as they both fit together very well. The problem is the script. It just isn't very funny. The jokes are very few, and rely more on sight gags. The story was OK, just for a comedy film, it was very disappointing. I gave it a 6, only because i enjoyed it, but then you would say that when you a fan of both Jackson and Levy.F***...Crying Out Loud - Andy Fidler (Eugene Levy)
