Four talented alien musicians are kidnapped by a record producer who disguises them as humans. Shep, a space pilot in love with bass player Stella, follows them to Earth. Reprogrammed to forget their real identities and renamed The Crescendolls, the group quickly becomes a huge success playing soulless corporate pop. At a concert, Shep manages to free all the musicians except Stella, and the band sets out to rediscover who they really are -- and to rescue Stella.

I love this movie so much
Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
This movie was awesome. It was so refreshing to see a movie without any dialogue. It doesn't hit us over the head constantly with exposition and melodramatic confrontations. We aren't told what to think or feel. We're free to analyse or just go along for the ride. It's very relaxed and easy to watch. The music is gorgeous and just doesn't stop. Each song flows beautifully into the next. There were no dull parts, no songs that sounded like mere filler. They matched nicely overall with the story and imagery. Sometimes they fitted perfectly with the visuals and other times they juxtaposed in an interesting way that still made sense and brought different, unexpected qualities out.The story was generally easy to follow. It's interesting as an allegory about the recording business (or corruption in general) but then it also works as just a made-up story with aliens and fancy gadgets and guitars. It creates worlds that the characters exist within. It sparks our imaginations to fill in the details about these people and their worlds. We want to believe they exist outside of the movie. The characters all have clear motivations and are always doing things for a reason. There are no vapid argument scenes, just good vs. evil, man vs. nature.I don't feel I have much else to say about this movie. It's short at only an hour but was one of the most enjoyable movies I've ever seen. I was in the right mood for it and it was highly satisfying. You can just sit back and let your mind wander. Bob your head or tap your feet. I really wish worlds like this actually existed, it feels like where humanity really belongs. Free, flying, traveling to all kinds of strange places, loving, listening to music. Alas, one can only dream...
I consider this one of my favorite movies. I love anime, and this has that. I love techno, and this has that. I like romance, and this has a little of that. Also, the music is great. It totally makes up for lack of dialogue. It is even good if you just turn it on and let the music play. the video is unnecessary to enjoy this. Me and my friends will be sitting around playing PSP and we just put this on in the background...Animation: 9/10Sound: 10/10Style: 10/10Overall, if you love techno, you MUST watch this movie. If you love anime, you MUST watch this. If you like music, you should watch this...Even people i know who said they didn't like the band, Daft Punk, loved this. This movie is even great for kids. my Brothers (9 and 12) love this movie, and it is perfectly kid friendly
Wow!, what a movie. Gave me goosebumps just watching it. The animation is so rich and endlessly colourful that you would want to keep watching it over and over like I do. I'm a Daft Punk fan and I must say this is a masterpiece for them as their songs really brought out all the emotion in this film, my favourite one in the movie was 'Digital Love', it was excellent, perfectly done! Although the movie doesn't have dialogue, it is kinda fun to know what is going on and whats the storyline of the movie. I've not watched the other anime series from Leiji Matsumoto, but I must say he is a genius for making this film which is out of this planet! So do watch this movie when you get the chance to, it will really make your day and you will want to watch it again! Ciao!
Interstella 5555 is an experimental film by the House duo Daft Punk, about the abduction of an alien music group by an evil music executive bent on exploiting them. The story unfolds with the band's kidnapping, their transformation into "normal" human beings, and their eventual rescue by a fellow alien of their planet, who happens to be in love with Stella, the lone female of the group. There is no spoken dialog in the film. Instead, the entire score is set to Daft Punk's album "Discovery". Directed by Leiji Matsumoto, "Interstella 5555" is a fun and surprisingly involving story, with music to match. Each song blends seamlessly into the next segment, with the moods shifting from outrageously loud (Crescendolls), to depressingly somber (Nightvisions). Daft Punk fans will love Interstella, but I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for some high spirited fun, particularly anime fans, as the animation is excellent. In a generation where nudity and expletives rule the music scene, Interstella 5555 is a refreshing, and ultimately successful foray into Daft Punk's music. I really loved it and it's a shame that this little gem wasn't released in theaters, because the animation and sound would have been brilliant on the big screen.Look for an appearance of Daft Punk themselves during the awards ceremony.
