As Good As It Gets
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Had to turn this off mid-way as it was literally unbearable. There are no words for how terrible the plot is. The only thing that would have made it *vaguely* interesting to watch would have been a 'will they, won't they' tension between Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal - however, they sleep together almost immediately after meeting and continue to get along excellently, meaning their storyline is tremendously boring. I'm afraid I don't have time to explain everything else that was terrible about this movie or I would be here for literally hours. Just don't watch it.
When watching a comedy , I mostly focus on opportunities to laugh and this one provided them in plenty . it is a constant laugh-fest with a good story and unbelievable performances . I am a little surprised at the low ratings cause it is not vulgar or anything .
Deformed dick and prolapsed anus aside (yes, those are the "medical conditions" that make the characters rally for health-care), this movie can only be useful as a bad example for film-school.An impressive benchmark how a movie filled with a great cast AND led by a good director can turn out REALLY bad. Even the premise is relatively original. The certainly intentional overacting makes everyone a caricature but unfortunately reaps no laughs at all. None. The political satire part squibbed because the movie is so far over the top that it can't be taken seriously. Politics serve just as setting not the focus of a persiflage. If you want to see how director David O. Russel does a better job with about the same budget, watch "I Heart Huckabees", which I enjoyed quite a bit.
You really need to suspend your disbelief from the beginning, but once you do and go along with the story it is very entertaining and funny. The writing is sharp and quick and the actors are excellent. I like the creative use of camera angles and the movement of the camera. The production values are very good. There are several scenes involving many people and costumes. The filming was done before Obamacare was passed but touches on some of the issues involved in that debate. It was funny to see the politicians want to spend trillions to establish a military base on the moon but not care at all about people's medical needs in a crisis. The movie also skewers the medical establishment when an emergency operation is stopped because the patient is not insured and it would cost $150,000.Like I said, suspend you disbelief and it is a fine movie. It is truly a comedy and satire.
