Perfect cast and a good story
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
The acting in this movie is really good.
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
This is an astounding Martial arts film, that has lots of great comedy and jaw dropping fight scenes!. All the characters are wonderful, and the story was awesome, plus Jet Li is simply amazing in this!. The dubbing is once again, pretty good, and the final fight was simply fantastic!, plus Jet Li had a great sense of humor!. A lot of the laughs come from the scenes with Fong and his mother, they are absolutely hilarious, and the ending especially had me cracking up, plus there are lots of great serious and dramatic moments too!.The plot is really cool and the use of wires was actually incredible, plus you do get to see some of Jet's natural ability too!. The character development isn't too shabby and the costumes were pretty cool, plus Jet had awesome chemistry with both Josephine Siao and Michelle Reis!. This has to be one of the 1st Jet Li films i have seen him act sort of goofy, and i loved it!, plus some of the dialog was absolutely hilarious!. A few spoilers, but what the hey.I was quite amazed by Fong Sai Yuk. The beginning, to be honest, didn't exactly inspire me with confidence. Sai Yuk enters a race and runs so fast his pony tail extends straight behind him. It really looks stupid. But, from then on the pace picked up.Sai Yuk was just a normal boy (albeit hard as a coffin nail), his mum nagged him to study and he was often told off. But then the plot thickens and it turns out his family are involved in an underground resistance movement. It then all kicks off as a top fighter from the government tries to track them down.We have comedy (which, for once, works well in a martial arts film) romance and, most of all, action. And boy howdy do we have action. It has some of the best scenes I have seen. All in all The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk is a superb film. Its perfect late night action fodder.
Wow. After seeing this, Jet Li is truly awesome. But he's not the only one who shines here.Fong Sai Yuk (Jet Li) is a young man who yearns to compete and backs it up with amazing kung fu. Jet is more carefree in this one and doesn't hesitate to fight. Josephine Siao plays his mother and she's such a character!! Any scene with her and Jet are just too funny! Michelle Reis plays the beautiful Ting Ting and has very good chemistry with Jet in the film (lucky guy!). Her dad Tiger Lu (Sung Young Chen) is quite a kooky character too and his mood swings provide for humor as well. Now on to the action. The 'marriage' contest is AMAZING as Jet and Sibelle Hu are literally fighting over the crowd stepping from head to head, shoulder to shoulder. Jet really shows his prowess throughout the film fighting with fists, feet, swords, arrows and more! Credit deservedly goes to Corey Yuen who displays some of the most creative battles I've ever seen. With a really cool soundtrack, great cast, humor and great kung fu, Fong Sai Yuk is really fun to watch.
I finally managed to get my hands on a copy of this movie, and all I can say is WOW! Wow, because I didn't understand what the hell was going on for the whole movie, the subtitles were so badly misaligned. But mainly WOW! because it didn't matter a jot that I couldn't tell what the plot was as the film is just one amazing "fight" scene after another. This film defies belief, and description. If you love MAD films check this out. There is a scene in which Jet Li fights the mother of the woman he has a crush on entirely on the HEADS of a crowd! Then HIS mother has a fight with the first woman. From the opening scene you will see that this is a piece of genius. The plot doesn't matter. This is pure spectacle. When you see these people move you will realise that the USA can never invade China. They just have all the tricks in the book. They wrote the tricks. I wish I had seen this when I was 9. It would have changed my life totally.
