Humanity finally rids themselves of Godzilla, imprisoning him in an icy tomb in the South Pole. All is peaceful until various monsters emerge to lay waste to Earth's cities. Overwhelmed, humanity is seemingly saved by a race of benevolent aliens known as Xiliens. But not all is what it seems with these bizarre visitors. If humanity wishes to survive, they must reluctantly resurrect their most hated enemy, Godzilla.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
They pulled out all the stops for Godzilla's 50th anniversary (and 29th film counting the US version). Between the opening montage and the film itself, almost every monster that Toho has fielded over the previous half-century (other than oddly absent co-stars from the Heisei era) has at least a cameo. They even invited the much maligned American Godzilla, who puts in a brief appearance (only to be effortlessly dispatched by the real thing and then ridiculed as a "tuna eater" by the frenetic head ET). 'Jet Jaguar' is there in spirit, as 'Minilla' (Godzilla's roly-poly offspring) demonstrates the same inexplicable ability to spontaneously enlarge and an effigy of rival kaiju 'Gamera' gets scornfully thrown into a fire by a fat child in Vancouver (!). The main monsters get to destroy lots of famous landmarks, which is always fun to watch and it was good to see a few of the second-string monsters like 'Kamacuras', 'Kumonga', and 'Ebirah' get some screen time. I liked 'Anguirus'' new technique of rolling into a spikey ball (although the 'soccer' scene with 'King Caesar' (who looks like some kind of giant, bipedal Pekingese), 'Rodan', and Godzilla was a throwback to the silly Showa-era rock-throwing fights (perhaps a tribute?)). The final kaiju showdown (any Godzilla fan will know who that will involve) is great, with plenty of collateral damage and gratuitous carnage. The aliens were a predictable bunch but I liked the design of their spaceship (although the scenes lifted from "Independence Day" were inferior to the source material). The 'Gotengo' (first seen in 1963's "Atragon") was interesting but the premise that it could drill through obstacles was ridiculous, as the ship was clearly wider than the diameter of the hole that the drill-head would make. At over 2 hours, the film is long for a Toho monster-fest and far too much time is wasted on the 'mutant' soldiers' training, fights, and car chases, all of which are by far the weakest parts and most derivative parts of the movie. Many of the stagey fight scenes are blatantly 'borrowed' from the "Matrix" and again don't compare favourably to the original. The motorcycle chase/duel is ludicrous and makes the wrestling scenes between actors in rubber monster suits look hyper-realistic. The movie often tongue-in-cheek, including silly sound effects (for example, when the pimp's hat blows off) and most of the acting hammy and over-the-top (especially by Kazuki Kitamura's renegade 'Controller of Planet X'). All of that aside, this is a tokusatsu kaiju film celebrating a long-lived franchise and what really matters, the monster fights, are generally outstanding. The movie could have been a genre classic if the focus had remained where it belonged: the appearance, rampage, show-down, and destruction of each of the iconic kaiju. As it stands, kaiju fans, love it or hate it, will get to see lots of 'old friends' in a single movie and newcomers to the canon may find it an entertaining, albeit absurd, time waster. Other than another American version, the big guy remains in seclusion until 2016, when he receives yet another makeover in "Shin Godzilla".
Even hardcore Godzilla fans will have a hard time swallowing "Godzilla: Final Wars". Sure there are plenty of monsters in the film, but none of them have any presence and aside from a few monsters, they have very little screen time overall. Some monsters appear for less than five minutes, only to display how "Awesome" Godzilla is when he effortlessly blows them away. Really, what's the point? This isn't going to win the big guy any new fans, and old fans won't be seeing anything new, since this is a retread of "Destroy all Monsters". The dialog is very bad, the characters are cliché and the story is lazy. Despite the good special effects and large roster of monsters, this is one of the worst entries in the series because while it really just feels like a 13 year old played one of the "Godzilla" fighting games, drew his own "most awesome Godzilla story ever" and turned it into a film (Dvd, March 2012)
laughed so hard, me and my mates checked this movie out got completely blazed up (couple of nug nugs in dat bong) and laughed all the way through. yo dat evil guy has the funniest laugh lol! be sure to check out the English dubbed version, it makes it extra-funny!it had so many plots going at one point i thought my brain was gonna pop, real talk.on a serious not though, dat stank we puffed wus guud, i mean REAL good. all i did was laugh for 2 hours straight and we didn't even put it in a cake or anything. if you ever get the chance make sure to blaze up before hand cuz dang son.i give it 5 dank out of 420
Godzilla might be the one character on film with the longest history. It's just like James Bond: it never really dies or ends, it just keeps coming back decade after decade in some new hip style. After twenty-plus Godzilla films, Final Wars presents the last foray in the classic series into the crazy world of rampaging monsters toppling cities (in the same fashion as Die Another Day was the last Bond film of the initial series that went crazy with the gadgets and evil megalomaniacs and such). If nothing else, Final Wars goes all-out in shoving in as much epic action, as many monsters, and as much glorious cheese as it can! And it does so with flash and style! Really, the film is utterly stupid and laughable. The acting is very cheesy (especially when watching it with English dubbing), the action is very over-the-top, the monsters still look fake as hell, and the production overall is as cheap as they come. The film also has a ton of scenes where they tried their best to be modern and cool; you can expect to meet a squad of dudes who twirl around with guns, as if they came from Equilibrium. And, there are car chases and fight scenes galore. Of course, the main highlight is the mass carnage caused by the monsters, and the film doesn't disappoint on that level: in addition to Godzilla, there are also flying bugs, rampaging lizards, and aliens destroying practically every city in the world. A whole gang of monsters from the older films return, including Mothra, Gigan, Rodan, Ghidorah, Ebirah, and so many more! They've even thrown in Zilla, from the much-hated '98 US film in the mix! Godzilla's son appears in all his stupid glory! Oh yeah, it doesn't get much bigger than this! The story's pretty silly, the characters are pretty flat, but what really matters it that it's basically the end-all-be-all war of monsters. The first half of the film sets things up fine and dandy, before all heck breaks lose in the last half. Nothing terribly deep, but it's cool all the same. This film is quite cheesy. It does have fine and dandy photography. Editing can be pretty hectic and erratic (especially during the opening credits scene, which includes some cool clips from the last 20-something movies). Acting and writing are pretty bad. This production has some very cheap-looking sets, props, and costumes. Music is pretty cool. This is the type of kaiju film I find myself enjoying more and more: it's the type that doesn't take itself seriously, and knows how to have a good time. The film moves fast, has loads of action, and has a pretty generous helping of cheese. If you don't mind that kind of thing, then this movie should be a must-see! 4/5 (Entertainment: Perfect | Story: Average | Film: Average)
