Undescribable Perfection
Purely Joyful Movie!
When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Miss Congeniality 2 in my opinion, is just as good as the first movie. Sandra Bullock of course plays the same character, Gracie Hart, and she's just as likable and fitting for the role in this film as in the 2000 film. I also really liked Regina King here, she is very funny and tough, that's what her character is all about. She's tough as nails and won't take anyone's BS, but there are moments where that hard shell of hers is broken and we're able to see her warm fuzzy side, I liked the balance of both that we get to see at different points in the movie. The script is pretty average for this kind of film, but it still worked in my opinion. I liked how it contained plenty of good humorous material to laugh and have fun with, but then also contained good messages with heart. The action is just about the same in this movie as in the first one, which also worked well. Hey if it ain't broke then why fix it?? The drag show performance scene is very fun and enjoyable. Who wouldn't love Sandra bullock and Regina King singing Tina Turner with a bunch of drag queens?? And then the final thing I want to cover is the awesome and very crucial message that this movie proudly sends. The quote from Gracie Hart at the end of the movie is what I'm referring to: "some people may care about people who care about themselves, but I just don't care about those people" :). That is a wonderful very correct message for everyone. 7/10.
This not a great or classic movie, but I had fun. Making it required thousands of extras and hundreds of stunt men. There is a lot of physical humour and women gratuitously beating up men, to their astonishment. In one scene that made me howl Sandra Bullock poked at Dolly Parton's (playing herself) boobs to see if they were real. In another wonderful scene, Bullock disguises herself as a loopy elderly wisecracking Jewish woman. The makeup is so good, you have to look over and over to reassure yourself it is really her. Diedrich Bader plays a very campy style consultant. He is very over the top but still sympathetic. For such a pansy, he has considerable bravery and spunk. There is an exuberant drag show, again presented positively. One of the ongoing themes, is prior to the movie plot starting, Bullock's boyfriend dumped her. She was too much of a tomboy for him. She can't let him go. The movie teases you into expecting him to show up at some point for a big reconciliation. You give up on this, and wonder if maybe she will pair up with one of the handsome males. No sign of it. The movie ends with her still single. But watch the closing scenes very carefully. She may have paired up after all. It is subtle.William Shatner is in it, but his role is quite small. The amazing thing is he escapes underwater. He seems to be doing the stunt himself, quite remarkable for a man his age. He has a great line "I played Iago in the Twelfth Night" trying to convince kidnappers he has theatrical experience.
The first Miss Congeniality was dreadful, (i gave it 2 out of 10). This...made 5 years after the first is about 20 times worse. If there was a funny line in there, I missed it. Miss Con "one" made a lot of money...because of the pulling power of Sandra Bullock. So, Miss Bullock had some free time, produced this , virtually knowing here huge fan base would pull this through. It worked, this really terrible film did make money. Not as much as the first piece of trash, but a tidy sum nevertheless. The most amazing fact about Bullock is...she is not funny. It is that "girl next door look she has" that makes the fans go ga ga. She doesn't act at all in this sequel. She plays...the girl next door. I did not want to see this---but i lost a bet---and this was my punishment. (I still get night-mares about it).
SpoilersThe guy Gracie fancied in the first story has dumped her - perhaps he couldn't cope with the enormous fame that came to her from winning the title of Miss Congeniality?!He does it in the most spiteful and offensive way, standing her up when she'd prepared a nice cosy evening, and when she asks why she's being dumped, he insults her. What a shame she didn't seize the opportunity, the moment she worked out what he was going to say, and tell him to get lost - throwing him bodily out of the flat - like straight through the window (without it having been opened first of course) would have been Gracie's style. But it's very much Bullock's style to be put down somehow, unfairly so, after being humiliated by some b.... veryone else can see is a complete jerk, and then drag herself up again and finally win out. Some of the aim of this second story is to bolster her confidence again, but the script doesn't quite succeed in that objective which left me feeling a little sad, even though things are "better than they were". I know second sequels tend to be even less effective than first sequels but I feel this story still hasn't finished yet and needs a third movie to round it off. But will the studio (or Bullock) agree and give it to us?Other than this, the movie is almost as hilarious as the original. It flags a little at times because Gracie has become too famous and too easily recognisable by all and sundry she might encounter to carry on just now as an ordinary FBI agent, so her boss makes her become an ambassador for the FBI's image. One splendid aspect of this change though is that it "is" different - not a repeat of the earlier story. She spends rather less time knocking down anyone who insults her - which had been such an hilarious feature of Movie 1! On the other hand, she now has a perfect foil in another female rogue agent who's assigned as her bodyguard but hates her. You can imagine the fun that ensues from this. There isn't a man for Gracie this time. An agent she might have fancied is like her lost beau preferring someone else. Come on, Studio, give her a guy who really values her, she deserves it. Don't leave her yearning and wondering why "no-one ever likes her" because frankly, can anyone believe no-one would like Gracie? She's wonderful and should have men falling over themselves to get near her even if she then knocks them down!
