The acting in this movie is really good.
Yeah, it was cool.Would like it better if things turned out to be really supernatural. But this was a cool film to spend the evening. It's worth it. The house shown in the film was perhaps too small to have a secret dungeon - other than that, there was no defect in the film for a common watcher like me.
Kylie Bucknell is a troubled girl in New Zealand. She gets arrested for trying to break into an ATM. She is sentenced to house arrest and forced to move back in with her mother Miriam. Miriam suspects the house is haunted. Strange things start to happen. Amos sets up her ankle bracelet and is a paranormal enthusiast. Dennis is the psychologist assigned to her case. There are surprising moments of light humor in this odd little horror. It's not particularly scary. It has a bit of fun like the Cornetto Trilogy. The lead character is not necessarily a nice girl but she still maintains some rooting interest. The story doesn't completely hold together but the last act has plenty of fun.
Housebound(2014) Starring: Morgana O'Reilly, Rima Te Wiata, Glen- Paul Waru, Cameron Rhodes, Millen Baird, Ross Harper, Bruce Hopkins, Ryan Lampp, Ian Mune, and Wallace Chapman Directed By: Gerard Johnston Review TERROR GETS DOMESTICATED Hello Kiddies your Pal The Crypt- Critic is so tired of seeing some of the most boring and uneventful horror films he at least tried to make himself laugh with a horror comedy. But I'm not even that in too horror comedy. When Kylie Bucknell is sentenced to home detention, she's forced to come to terms with her unsociable behavior, her blabbering mother and a hostile spirit who seems less than happy about the new living arrangement. It's getting real hard to do this hooptober with some ounces of bad slime that I've been reviewing, this film is a horror comedy which I didn't know going in, I laughed about once so you can tell it didn't achieve it's goal although some people actually like this more power to them I don't see the appeal. The acting is mediocre for the most part, it feels like a low budget lifetime special with cheap scares and no such thing as atmosphere. Atmosphere is a horror film's best friend and this film has none, I don't know if it's a dark satire or downright but then again the main reason I probably couldn't tell is because I was so bored I didn't care! Which is exactly how I felt throughout this film I didn't care for anything going on,nothing was exciting, scary, and I only laughed once. Housebound may have funny moments but not no good tone or clever writing to feel your in an enjoyable or dreadful environment. I'm giving it a one and a half out of five.
Over the years, I have noticed that New Zealanders seem to find it very hard to make a straightforward horror movie! They have to have this quirky sensibility that just seeps into all their horror movies. The Writer/Director Gerard Johnstone also seemed to have drawn inspiration from some classic movies like "The Changeling" and "The Shining," in a way that still feels fresh rather than derivative. But he brings something extra to the table, that wickedly quirky New Zealand sense of humor. While still harrowing and spooky, he brings humor to the movie from the very first scene.Clever and spooky, "Housebound" manages to take a lot of clichés and make them feel fresh as new and the acting was superb by the whole cast. In short, a must-see for those who like some laughs!
