The Worst Film Ever

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
There has been a lull in Indian Cinema when it comes to filling the period drama, considering the cost and risk involved. I remember there used to so many of them in 60's and 70's as compared to the handful lot made in the last decade. "Razia Sultan" comes to my mind when I think about historical period drama which tanked big time. Even "Asoka" bombed for that matter. "Jodha Akbar" is rich, colourful and engaging. Maybe not on the scale of Hollywood period drama but safe enough to say its moving there. A lot of effort has been put in to draw up a large canvass. Its is herculean task and indeed praise-worthy. It portrays a slice of history using the love- story as the backdrop which in itself is novel. Hrithik Roshan breathes life into Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar. His body language, mannerism and dialogue delivery constructs an Emporer whom you would envision as mighty, powerful and yet compassionate and romantic. So far Prithviraj Kapoor from "Mughal-E-Azam" spring to mind the moment you hear the name "Akbar" mentioned. But Hrithik gives more than cent percent to break that image and carve his own version of Akbar The Great.Aishwarya was a good choice in the role of "Jodha Bai". The character is written in a way who is shown to be standing up in her own right. Her costumes deserve a special mention. Sonu Sood perhaps got noticed for the first time in this movie. Ila Arun does a praiseworthy job as Maham Anga (the looks seem to have jumped straight out of a dark graphic novel). The rest of the star- cast as usual lent adequate support to the proceedings. Poonam Sinha was a surprise, I really didn't know that she was Mrs. Shotgun.Music by A R Rahman were top-notch nicely complimented by the words from Javed Akhtar. Ashutosh Gowarikar hold the reigns quite well and delivers a product which can be aptly called as visual treat.
The movie is based on the time during the mughal dynasty. Jallaludin Mohammed Akbar is one of the most powerful rulers. He was crowned at a very young age. Years later he married a Rajput princess Jodhaa (Aiswarya Rai) who happens to be in a different religion. They try to be good and comfortable with each other that's when more problems arise from the enemies.Jodhaa Akbar has a good storyline but has unnecessary dragging. The movie lasts for about three and half hours in that manner. And it was completely unnecessary. Like Hrithik Roshan takes about five minutes to go from one room to another. And during the wedding scene Aiswarya Rai is sitting there and the camera pans in taking about five minutes. Only in the second half the film becomes more lively.Songs are excellent like jashn e bahara, khwaja mere khwaja. They had that touch of the old days including the lyrics. A.R Rahman did well in both song's music direction as well as the background score. The performance were very good from all the actors. Overall Jodhaa Akbar is a good movie. It is not an entertainer. Fans of Hrithik Roshan and Aiswarya Rai will like this film. 8/10
It's not historically accurate, but the filmmaker states that at the beginning. However, if you want to see a visually stunning and compelling film, do not miss this one.It is on par with the great epic films of the past, even by Hollywood standards. I have already watched it several times. All of the actors do a great job. I believed Hrithik in his role as a King, which was a concern at first that he would be able to transcend his "beauty" to make us see him as Akbar. He proved that he is up to any acting challenge thrown his way. Aishwarya was wonderful as usual. If you want a history film, watch a documentary. If you want entertainment, you will not be disappointed.
Jodhaa Akbar is a spectacular Indian epic drenched in colors and music.. The legendary Moghul emperor may not have been anything like Hrithik Roshan, but Hrithik is every inch a royal prince, all 6 feet of him. Both he and Ms. Rai look beautiful and do their best with the minimal script. Lovers of historical romance and adventure films should be pleased...if they don't expect accurate history any more than would be present in a King Arthur or Robin Hood tale. Besides the two stunning leads, the film offers the most glorious vision of a bygone era seen on the screen in quite a while. The action, war and dueling scenes are just as outstanding as the static opulent court and palace scenes. The film is visually rich, beautifully photographed and choreographed. Lavish sets and costumes equal and compliment the beauty of the players.
