Highly Overrated But Still Good
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
I think Danny Trejo shouldn't go for major roles but just stick to some minor appearances. He's just not a great actor, at least not good enough to play leading roles. He fits better in small parts where he has to play the villain. Badd Ass 2 isn't great, with a weak story, one of those stories you saw a lot before and way better. Danny Glover should call it quits by now. In this movie it looks all forced and his past natural comedy talent isn't the same in Bad Ass 2. I saw they made a third one but I honestly think I'm going to pass on that one. I can get that some people like those kind of movie but it's not for me. Story too weak and actors not on top.
Not spectacular in any ways but if you like liked the first one then I don't see why you shouldn't at least enjoy this one.Plotwise I guess it's nothing that's gonna win any awards, fairly similar to the first one but I really enjoy Danny Trejo as Frank Vega.Usually Trejo gets to play only one-dimensional angry all the time bad asses but Frank Vega has a little more layers to him, of course he's still bad ass but he does have a more sensitive side to him as well as being rather funny from time to time. And Danny Glover is a nice addition to the franchise, even though there are limitations to what he can do in terms of bad assness his character is funny.Dante Basco is listed in the credits, but honestly I didn't see him, and I imagine I would have recognized him if I did... But he's listed as 'gangly Asian guy' so maybe he was in the background in some scene. Or his scene were cut out for some reason. Just thought I'd point that out.Anyways yeah if you liked the first one give it a go, have not seen the third one yet but is looking forward to doing so when possible.
If you saw Danny Trejo play Frank Vega in the first Bad Ass, then you probably know what to expect from Bad Ass 2: Bad Asses. While I don't think it's quite as good overall, this one is funnier. Trejo is joined by Danny Glover. Together, they make a mean, geriatric, fighting machine. Just the sight of these two guys together is enough to bring a smile to my face - Trejo in his now familiar blue t-shirt, cameo jacket, khaki shorts, and white tennis shoes and socks with Glover wearing a yellow t-shirt, green Adidas track suite, white tennis shoes, and rainbow headband. And they play off each other nicely, constantly making fun of the other's age and medical conditions. A plus for Bad Ass 2 is Andrew Divoff as chief baddie Leandro Herrera. Divoff always plays a fantastic heavy. Yeah, fight choreography is a bit weak, special effects are pretty bad, and there are moments that defy belief (a grenade nonchalantly thrown from a car into a helicopter), but it's all done in with a sense of humor. In this one, Vega is helping young men get off the streets by teaching them to box. One of his prize boxers, however, gets mixed up with some drug dealers and gets himself killed. With the help of his reluctant friend, Bernie, Vega sets out to avenge the young man's death and clean up the streets.I realize Bad Ass 2 isn't a "good" movie by most people's standards. But if you don't take it too seriously, it's not half bad.
If you enjoyed the first "Bad Ass" movie, then you will definitely like "Bad Asses" as well, because it is just as entertaining and out there as the first movie was.The storyline is much similar to the first movie, sure. Frank Vega (played by Danny Trejo) is now trying to live a fairly quiet life after his semi-famous attention he got in the first movie. Living in a quiet neighborhood, he frequently visits the nextdoor liquor store run by Bernie Pope (played by Danny Glover). Frank is training local youths in the boxing center, when Manny (played by Jeremy Ray Valdez) gets killed because of drugs. Teaming up with Bernie after he saved Frank's life, the two men set out to find out to clean out the dirty seed in the community.Actually the storyline was good, despite it being corny and full of clichés. But there was just something fundamentally entertaining about it. And the movie really flourished because of the talents that were in the movie. Both Danny Trejo and Danny Glover were excellent cast for their particular roles. But I will say that Andrew Divoff really was well cast for the role as Leandro Herrera, and he played the character well. There is a good amount of action in the movie, and despite being up well in their ages, both Danny Trejo and Danny Glover do show that they still got it. And Danny Glover did bring a comedy relief to the movie, that actually worked out quite alright. So, for those who enjoyed the first "Bad Ass" movie, you don't want to miss out on this one.
