Surprisingly incoherent and boring
Brilliant and touching
The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
30 Minutes or Less is a half cooked comedy featuring a lot of dumb slackers.Dwayne (Danny McBride) wants to open a massage parlour with his partner Travis (Nick Swardson) but he needs to get hold of his dad's money who has no time for this waste of space. So Dwayne hires a hitman who would do the job for 100k to kill his dad.To raise the money they decide to kidnap a slacker pizza delivery boy Nick (Jesse Eisenberg) and strap a bomb vest on him. They order Nick to rob a bank and steal the 100k or else the bomb will go off.Fearing for his life, Nick persuades his best friend Chet (Aziz Ansari) to help him out. Dwayne has no plans to leave any loose ends behind. The film is not that funny, the plot is absurd but at least it ends in a satisfying note and it has a short running time.
30 Minutes or Less would go on TV the night, so I decided to watch the movie, but without any expectations, and I ended up liking the film, I thought a lot of fun, the cast is good, Jesse Eisenberg is well, Danny McBride good and funny, Aziz Ansaria this very well, I rather laugh with him, Nick Swardson, Michael Peña, Fred Ward and etc, the script is weak, more has really funny moments, and some fun dialogues, even the majority being uninteresting, the direction of the film is weak and the pace is moderate, I was not bored, most believe it will be very, 30 Minutes or Less is fun, have a good time, plus has a weak script and direction without any inspiration. Note 7.0
I seem to recall seeing the trailer for this and thinking it looked kind of funny. Jesse Eisenberg plays his typically geeky and hard done by character once again; this time he's a pizza delivery boy who gets tricked into robbing a bank by two local idiots who somehow know how to strap a bomb-vest around him and give him ten hours to get them one hundred thousand dollars.I quite liked the idea, but the story didn't seem to know what it was or where it was going. I think the main problem I had with it was the script. In the absence of anything either funny or clever to say, the writers went for volume. There was barely a line delivered at a normal pitch. People just yelled at each other to make up for the fact that no witty dialogue was available at the time.I guess if you look at this film as more of a tongue-in-cheek thriller, you may get something out of it. However, it's not serious enough to be a thriller and it's definitely not funny enough to be a comedy. Drama maybe? I can hardly see it cropping up on many Academy Award nomination lists.I did laugh once - about midway through the film and thanks to some unexpected blue stuff.I guess Jesse's laughs are being stored for Zombieland 2 or something.Disappointing. It was a nice idea that had no idea.
Two friends must work together to steal enough money demanded to be delivered to two sociopath partners-in-crime that hire an assassin to murder their boss. Already you can see how complex this plot is, but even with the simple direction between the four main characters, their stories are vastly different and could have been written more cleverly conjoined had it not had promise to work as an individual idea. Many viewers may create comparisons to other superior or inferior darkly comedies and some true events that may amuse or alienate them. Luckily, the characters are self-aware of the nonsense that may occur with unintentional deaths and stupidity from their choices. But even though every character follows their own steps to obtain what they want or please others, it doesn't do complete justice for the overall story and viewers. The cast and crew may have done their part, but most of the film could have done more for them if the writing had some crucial changes. If only it had more focus and less characters used for the wrong reasons, or used more in a way where their importance isn't limited to less appeal, this film would have felt worth more than thirty-minutes to some viewers. Instead, this is a disjointed bomb job that could have blown us away with bigger and better surprises even though the fuse had a shortage of that and more.
